I suspect you might need a little clearancing for the vacuum pump? That looks mighty close when factoring in engine movement. Nothing a few well placed taps with a hammer couldn't fix though. Looks like things are progressing nicely. I will say that your weather forecast from a few days back did make me gasp though.

TW -

Some days you're the bug, some days you're the windshield. Looks like a windshield day for you!!!

Hope you can keep up the momentum; it's really looking good.

Scott
It was the bug's LUCKY DAY, The windshield happened to be not moving. Bug pooped on it and flew off . . In that case I should have been the bug? Ha~ha

The cab is just set in place. Not a final resting spot. It needs to have front clip in place to really get it correct. If when in final spot and its close or touching I will do just that but think it will end up around 1/4" away.

madoc1 handled that . . Was hoping to take it for a spin now that everything clears but just too busy. Its been sitting in same spot since October . . Dust Collector. Now that it has a box on it I am sure it will turn into a Junk Collector .

robert, yes. see post 3301.

jim

Thanks, Here I missed that. Guess I was looking for pictures with hub caps
LOLOLOL. Its in the near future to put all the lug nuts on along with caps and get a few pics along with test drive.

Getting so worn out with no good sleep about all I can do is dream about it.

Have original Eco 2 front clip in shop to help fitting on to modded clip from Eco 1.

Since Eco 2 Original front clip was soooooo Nice and have the unused pieces from Eco 1 decided to use them. Eco 1 core support had a bit of rust on bottom. Had a extra perfect one but did not want to "practice" on that one.

Eco 2 sheet metal so nice wanted to leave it alone. Will use not so nice stuff to cut up. Having a Sky~Hook avail to hold pieces is nice

In process of fitting front sheet metal. A few "bumps" but so far much easier than expected!

Wow, it really looks good with your latest progress. All of your planning looks like it's really paying off when I see how great it fits together.

Boy was it hot over here last weekend while I was doing some wiring.

Got me to thinking... how do you keep your shrink tube from shriveling up before you use it?

Shrink tube typically has a shrink temperature of at 90 degrees C / 194 degrees F or higher, depending on the specific material it's made of.

How are things going TW? No updates in a week...

We used shrink tube in Iraq, and never had an issue, I would think this sounds about right...

You could keep it in the fridge.

Now funny!!

Hope things are ok TW.

Thanks for the comments!

Continue to have sleep issue's but still working on Eco 2 and will do so as long as I am able. I only get 1 maybe 2 restful nights per month, things are slow but making progress. With little good sleep its difficult at best trying to concentrate well enough to get the tough things done. Yesterday was one of those days I could not remember terms, names to save my life but did what I could.

Wiring Guru Walt460 dropped by yesterday to work on wiring, we stayed up until midnight and back at it for a few hours today. Walt is Hoping to finalize main wiring today. Fuel Pump harness is complete & working on main engine bay harness now. Hoping it and dash harness will be complete today. Engine harness is 100% Stock FoMoCO.

Its been very time consuming to make those little things fit/work while trying not to spend $$ and using what I have.

At this point I am still fitting core support, front aprons which need significant mods but think I have a handle on it now.

Just figuring out where to mount things is taking up a TON of time falling asleep in chair at times. Finally have proper location where wiring will reach for Battery, BJB, BCM, PCM etc

For cost savings and to keep the '66 look I will be using a "Retro" style knee knocker type A/C unit but integrating the 2015 Condenser, Compressor, Drier and part of lines. That way when one looks into cab it will appear 1966 and only until you open hood will see its been updated. Not sure how I will make it all happen but trying to move forward. The Underdash (knee-knocker) unit has been ordered and is due on Monday.

Its been a couple weeks trying to find the "Right Fit" for air box. After trying every way I could think of to make it work a hour in the chair nearly asleep last evening I finally have it, cutting, grinding, welding for Air Box fit and now I will actually have Functional Ram Air! Using 100% Stock 2015 Air Box.

Amazing how it will fit together with no extra $$ spent just time.

Was having difficult time trying to get the BJB to fit and also have enough wiring to reach inside of cab for the BCM without having to delete the Heater Assy. By shuffling things around I was able to make that happen yesterday.

Its like the largest 10,000,000 piece puzzle laid out on a table. Just keep shuffling things around until a piece fits then start over with the next piece.

I guess I could use the post pic method of everything I do . . LOL 20,000,000 million pics for Hey, That wire fits here! only to find out after installing the next 1,000 pieces having to backtrack because that first piece was off 90 deg. Best way I can describe it.

1) Trying to only do this once

2) Make it functional

3) Spend as little $ as Possible

4) Get it done NOW, Ha

Will post a few updated pics later today. Although things are slowly moving forward the pics will not show how much is happening . .

Eco 1 Update: All that's needed to do more driving/testing

1) Move rear shock upper mounts in 1"

2) Align Front End (everything all loose from adding lowering kit)

3) Install & Torque bolts that hold on box

4) Re-Run wiring to taillights

5) Move License plate so its visible

6) Install Battery

7) If I want A/C to work vacuum and Charge System its ready to roll

8) Normal person could get this done in 1/2 day. It could take me a month or more . .

So close yet so far . . With so much to do.

9) I would really like to remove remaining paint and do a general cleanup of bare metal so it looks nice for further pics and test drives.

10) With a bit of wiring cleanup I could use it as a daily for a while

11) Actually bolt on tailgate vs clamps holding it on.

12) Drive & Enjoy . .

13) I will leave the lucky 13 number to the long term 1956 Chevy Belair!
Last week we actually took it for first test drive, then came back and checked things out all ok, Took it to LUNCH! Still odd's and ends to do but getting close. At this time installing the new Dakota Digital dash cluster as the Speedo inop in other.

It will be 30 years of ownership for Uncle Mel this August! Talk about patience waiting that long before being able to drive. He was recently wanting to sell but now has new hope that he was actually able to drive it.

More news at Midnight . . Ha~ha

You sell yourself short - a man with your knowledge and talents can do that in half a day, but a guy like me would need half a month!

Thanks for the updates and glad to see you posting again - we were getting worried a bit (about you, although it is great seeing updates about your projects).

I have to agree here, I like to consider myself "normal" but I don't think that's necessarily half a days work, likely more for most of us...

And I don't like to pry, which is why I don't ask about your health, but that is first and foremost. Forgive me if I missed it, but what kind of sleep issues do you have? I have sleep apnea, and that causes a lot of other problems...

A typical night for me is around a hour or so of Deep Sleep.

A lot of times I will sleep for a hour or less, wake up thinking its morning only to find out I slept an hour or so. I do have sleep Apnea have had numerous sleep studies done with no relief from wearing a mask.

Maybe 1 or 2 times per Month will I actually feel like I slept/rested. Usually get up feeling more exhausted than when I went to sleep.

This first pic you can see in bed 12:27 kinda fell asleep instantly as was totally exhausted. Shortly after was wide awake until 1:30am. Then drifted off but by say 3:40 was pretty much up. Forced myself to try to sleep more but finally out of bed by 4:17. Total wide awake until around 9:00 AM then just collapsed . .

Lately have had difficulty in remembering simple terms, peoples names or places. Most days do not feel like posting when nothing is getting done.

I have made some progress but simply forget where I left off & not enough energy to check back and look.

I will post when able. Its going to be a very slow road . .

I do make progress by an hour here an hour there. Sometimes it may be 10 minutes. Its added up to having front clip figured out along with wiring and the oh so difficult Air Box.

Friend stopped by to help move trucks around so I would have room to pull box off of Eco 1. Seems like forever since the wheels were here and just a simple task like moving shocks seems near impossible with little to no rested sleep.

After looking at photo's I remembered a few things. LOL

I was able to make a much tighter radius on the Air Intake Elbow by heating it until soft moving it to gain approx 1/2"-3/4" in height. I then rotated it rearward to gain enough to clear from hitting bottom side of hood. This also allowed the stock 2015 Air Box to function as a Ram Air unit with all cold air. Sealing in proper place on hood. not so sure how that worked out so well. Lucky 2 I guess.

Forgot to mention the wiring is now also figured out and should be pretty simple to make it all work. A Big Thanks to Walt460 for making that happen.

What's up next is to get the sections I cut out of apron's fitted with new sheet metal. Have been trying for days to get that figured out but simply unable to concentrate well enough to get that done. Simply too HOT out to do the outside things needed.

Yesterday there were places that hit 120 that we seen on way out to eat. We live in a area where the elevation is a bit higher so do not see the typical area temps. Yesterday it hit 118 (in shade of course) at our house. Another friend had 124 at his place.

Did manage to take the '56 Chev on its 1st OFFICIAL Test Drive then to lunch last week.
Installing new Dakota Digital dash cluster so its finally getting closer to final stretch.

It will be 30 yrs in August since "Uncle Mel" bought the '56. We started to paint it by tearing it apart in late 1997. This could be the poster car for "Never Quit"

Re: 1966 F100 EcoBoost Engine Swap & 1966 427 Project

Sleep apnea is horrible, some may believe it's bs, but it really is taxing on everything you do. The readout you have is great, I wish I had that, mine gives a score that tells me the machine use, but not the details of my actual like yours, I do get the number of events per night though.

I found that regular use helped me a lot, however, my sleep apnea was caused by weight gain, which became a circular problem. Now that I have that under control, my weight is being worked on more successfully as well. If yours is from another cause, I would imagine you would have different results.

No bull though, old age or anything else isn't your memory problems, it's the lack of quality sleep. I found that I was forgetting simple things too.

Work done on the Eco trucks or not, we still like to hear how YOU are, and see that you're still good, those of us who have been following all (or almost all) along feel like we're a GJ family here...

Hey TW - I was just thinking about you this morning and wondering how you were holding up in the ridiculous heat. Between the heat and your health issues I'm impressed that you're making any progress at all.

The '56 looks awesome!

What app are you using for sleep tracking?

Dont remember name of last one as zapped it from phone a week or so ago.

Tried a new one last night for first time. This one will record sounds like breathing, snoring, movement etc. With only one night no real data so far.

We are planning a Eco 48 Lower State trip when ever I can manage to get a truck done. A friend and his wife said they would drive the 2nd eco truck. So goal would be to get both road worthy and maybe not both 100% done. No set plans on time line but this is the Map the wife has done so far. It would be in a counter clockwise route as per now anyway.

Its not meant to be a "OFFICIAL" type route or to set any records of any sort but thought it would be neat to take a project on a longer road trip into each state.

It would be cool to have a sponsor of sorts if that were possible. Good advertising for ECOBOOST! LOL OR, Ford could donate a new Ford GT for us to make the trip in.

Right now its set up for better roads but that may be changed if something along the route could be of interest.

Anyone from GJ within this route?

Greetings from Oregon, not sure if you have ever visited the Columbia Gorge before, but your turning away from some incredible scenery just as you cross the Columbia into Washington. If you stay on the Oregon side for another 100 miles you be right in the heart of the Columbia Gorge.
If you would like I will give you my Cell number just in case you need some assistance along the way. I'm located in Boring just east of Portland

It would be a shame to do all that driving and miss Nova Scotia when your coming so close. Hop the ferry over from Portland Maine and drive up the lighthouse route to Cape Breton and drive the Cabot Trail and head back down through New Brunswick to Maine and take the I 95 to the Number 2 and on into NH and the White Mountains.

If you end up near Reading Pa, let me know, I'll extend the offer of lunch or dinner as well. Seems a small price to pay for all the information, enjoyment, and inspiration I have gotten following along.

Great plan! Maybe get the scooter going and bring it with you for the really special back roads. It would sure look good in the back of those trucks.

Excellent Idea! Just gotta find the time & $$ to get that done. Be fun to drive it in every state even if it was 50'. Ha

"Anyone from GJ within this route?"

Yep :)
Cool!

We spent 6 1/2 yrs in WA and drove that route a number of times.

Vacation times etc have a effect on how long we can be gone so there will not be too many side trips. The shortest route we can find will take us near 9,000 miles!

Eco 1 & 2 Update:

Finally got a plan how to make inner fenders clear all on Eco 2.

Taking a slight break from Eco 2 to get Eco 1 Back on the road. Spent a few hours yesterday and a couple the day before cutting off the upper Shock Brackets so I could move them in 1" to clear the new Tire/Wheel Package.

Doing a bit of paint stripping behind cab prior to dropping box back in place.

Is everything welded up on Eco1 or is it still spot welded together? Curious since I don't remember seeing anything about blowing it back apart for final welding. The cab, at least.
The box I remember you welded it as you went along.
Great job on this as I read it for the last couple of years, updates and such.
