Found me a little York 60.
Jaws are 60 mm, almost 2.4"
Paint still good, no need to do anything.

Jaws are like new.

Made in in the former Czechoslovakia.

Here the little york is united with its big relative.

Top, found it.---It was from an Indian Chief EBay description.---Auction ended 12-20-15.---Don't know how you could verify the info, but he makes it sound good.

I have to make one correction though.---He didn't say Columbian but Columbus Forge & Iron Co..---I knew that if it was more than 6 hours ago that I wouldn't get it right.:dunno:

Looks like someone got confused. Columbian Hardware, later changed to Columbian Vise was in Cleveland. Columbus Forge and Iron Co. appears to be a totally separate company and was obviously in Columbus, "544 W FIRST AVE
COLUMBUS, OH 43215" to be exact. There is also Columbus Anvil and Forging (established around 1900 by a former employee of Columbus Forge and Iron) and Columbus Iron Works in Georgia (established in 1857) so you have to keep them straight LOL.

What's a reasonable price for a pretty clean Wilton C0? It's missing a pipe jaw, and at least one swivel lock, but doesn't look beat on.

The vise was missing one pipe jaw, both swivel lock handles and the dust cap. However its in very nice shape.

Bluebolt, in my searching, I saw all those Columbus and Columbian Co.s to.---And none of them told me who made Indian Chief Posters.---Which makes me think the guy selling the Indian Chief was just spit-balling and padding the description.---But not knowing, I still can't say that's right or wrong.---But he also said that Columbus Forge And Iron Co. made Columbian vises, and I believe that is off base.

At any rate, getting back to my original inquiry, I am no closer to knowing who made the Indian Chief Posters.:headscrat---Time for some Gurus to get off the bench.

Oh while searching I found this which is interesting, if you will indulge me this one digression.

Did you buy it? It looked pretty solid, and was only 20min from me.

My vise funds were a little low after buying the bullet 600 which is coming along nicely after a long e-bath, wire wheel, two coats of self-etching primer, and the first coat of Verde Green.

Sorry, I found proof Columbus Iron and Forge made Indian Chief vises and forgot to mention it, here's an ad. They made Trenton Anvils and the Indian Chief vises are mentioned in their same ad. https://books.google.com/books?id=q...=onepage&q=indian chief vise columbus&f=false

Yes i bought it after negotiating with him for about an hour. He didnt seem to know alot about it and he didnt even realize the dust cap was missing too. However i was able to get it for alot less than he was asking. I wouldnt have even bothered but he was quick to drop the price when i told him about a replacement jaw, lock handles, and dust cap. I didnt even know you posted a picture of it until after about 2 days of owning it.

Pelletman it's the infamous anvil-vise. Not really good as a vise or an anvil, but it is collectable to some, is an antique, and looks pretty interesting.

Thanks Blue.---That is going in my files for posterity.---Don't know how you fellows dig up all these old ads but I sure am glad yaw know where to look.---Without the research and evidence, the facts are like Granny's cooking, lost to time/microwaves.

So the seller was correct about Indians and Trentons, of the which I owe him an apology, but what about Columbian vises.---He said they made them to.

My first baby bullet arrived in this morning's mail. Serrated jaws (2 inch) are in excellent shape. No bent handles. Very smooth action. Model 920 P dated 2-46

I am excited to share this photo with my vise buddies.

When was your baby born ?

I should have included that info on the birth announcement.
It has been 35 years since I sent out my last birth announcement.

This baby was marked 2-46 by its delivery team there in Chicago weighing 8 1/2 pounds.

BTW, I had to pay 50 times what honza paid for his but who EVER gets deals like that?

Shift: looks like your bidding paid off.

BOY OR GIRL?? :bounce:

Thanks drives
Actually it was a "best offer" deal. My first number was rejected but after some negotiating, I got it for well under the asking price. I paid 250 which included shipping.

Joe:
That one looks to be in good shape, except for what sellers like to call "only surface rust...EZ to remove"
Please educate me regarding maker and purpose of that vise. I assume specialized blacksmithing? :dunno:
