Need some advice please. Here are pictures of my Craftsman 113.213710 with a 1/2 hp motor. I like it and it is in good condition and I have drilled 1/2" steel with it with no problems. I have been looking at restorations on GJ of craftsman 150s and I really like the look. I think the rpms on a 150 can get under 300rpms (I think??)If you need better pics, let me know. I took a couple pictures of the diagrams on the side and I can get the speed down to 380 rpm. If I bought a 150 (which do pop up on my CL from time to time) I would get rid of my current DP. Can anyone with experience on DPs tell me which one is better? Or offer more insight? I would basically be using it for metal around no more than 1/2" or so. Let me know if you need more info. My current DP is USA made model too. Thanks all.

My 1947 Craftsman 100 (Identical to 150, just older) has the lowest speed of ~600rpm, using two step pulleys. With an intermediate pulley you can get it down to 300 as you stated. However I have drilled 49/64 holes as 600 rpm no problem, so if you want to get low, low speeds look for a delta with the slow speed pulleys, vfd, or crazy pulley reductions. Your press is a redesigned 150 with 8 speeds, so if you want slower you could machine a matching pulley, flip the motor pulley and get 150rpm or so with an intermediate step pulley.

Your current drill press is better. Goes slower, has a better table (better for clamping), and the spindle depth is far better. I wouldn't dump it for an older CM.

BTW, if you really only want the slower speed, you could replace your motor with a slower 1150 rpm version. It would drop your lowest speed to around 250 rpm. I put one on my Wilton drill press, and find it a very worthwhile upgrade.

I've had that exact model DP. I don't see any compelling advantage trying to replace it with a 150.

Your DP has an extremely wide speed range and it's very easy to adjust speeds.

My only complaint was the tiny rubber band they call a drive belt. I guess it's still possible to get them though and I haven't heard any complaints about them breaking.

Thanks for the input! Sounds like keeping my DP is the best route.

Just buy an extra belt to have on hand while they're still available. I'm not sure if it's a proprietary belt but I wouldn't take any chances.

I have an extra belt, and I also looked online, and the belt I need can be had for a reasonable price.

I know this post is 6 yr old but it really helped me. I was hung u on getting a restored Craftsman 150, and I may still do that, but there was a local guy selling a 113.213710 at a really good price so I picked it up last night. I ordered a new belt for it already. Any other recommendations?
