A long way to go yet, but this is where I'm at. All the trim on the top drawers looked like the bottom. The cast ridges in the trim is even missing in some of the wear areas! This was one heavily used box.....There is light at the tunnels end...

I ended up keeping only this Craftsman . This is what my craftsman looks like after some cleanup. still not done though.

I put a new plywood in the bottom drawer and liners in the bottom toolbox.

Does anyone know when this model went out of production?

The last year for the gray/red series was late 1976 early 1977. After that the outer box was red with black drawers but with same construction until mid 80's

That cleaned up really well. Its amazing how nice these old tool boxes can look after a bit of soap and water and some elbow grease

Yes they came with the socket tray, I ditched mine and "magnet racked" my sockets up there. I suspect most trays got ditched.

The trays pop up on eBay once in a while, you can also keep an eye out at flea markets and the like. Tray is gray like the body of the box, later trays were black like the drawers.

Hello Guys,

Not sure if either of these fall under Vintage tool boxes but I picked up both of them over the last few months
Any info on who made the 3 drawer or how old it might be ---would be appreciated, I see no stamping or manuf. info.

The small hand tool box has Snap On stamped on the top but have no idea how old it is. Haven't seem many with a leather handle.
Right now I plan to leave them as is.
thanks,
Dan

Hmmm, my tray (about 75 or 76 vintage IIR) was red like the drawers?

Yup, Catalog from 73-73 verifies the tray's match the drawers, and so does the 76-77 catalog, where the trays match (only charcoal grey in the latter) - the only exception I saw was the "wood grain" veneer drawer fronts, but the base drawer was still red (in 72-3)

Mine is gray like the body, but maybe mine has been re-painted. my box is early to mind 60s. My 84 is black, but it is original never been painted.

The catalog solves that mystery, mine must have been painted, or have a later tray.

66 catalog says its red/grey finish, but the pics are shades of grey, no color pics. They did change schemas around, so in '66 it may have been a grey tray

Some more pictures after cleaning up and putting liners in and plywood on the bottom. Very happy how this came out!

homza, Awesome resto job. That stack looks great.

Thanks! The box was already pretty clean when I got it, which was quite surprising since it served in a auto body shop that closed down. The original liners were in really bad shape, so I replaced them. However they served their purpose and protected the drawers well. The paint is original, I cleaned everything and polished the paint. I am glad it is in original condition!

The plywood in the bottom shelf was really bad, so I put new plywood in there.

Adding one more detail of the side.

I called Waterloo Industries about my missing clips, and my damaged drawer-slide. They were very helpful, and are sending me 5 clips and a brand new slide.

Apparently, the new-style slides do not require any clips, but will work fine to replace my damaged original. I'll post some photos after the new parts arrive, to show you if they worked, and how effective they might be.

The big news for me, from reading this thread and contacting Waterloo, is that the new style clips fit perfectly to replace the old style clips.

Cheers!

I hoping they gave you the right slide. Yes you are correct that post mid 80's drawers don't use clips. The way they hold the drawer in place is a tab on the inner drawer slide that to bend out of way to remove drawer. On the older drawers they don't have that tap they use clip. So wondering how this is all going to work out?

I picked up this box a couple months ago and before I could get it out of my truck a co-worker made an offer I could not pass up. At the time(and still) I don't have the available floor/wall space for this cabinet or I'd have kept it. Dave sent some pics over the weekend of the after a detailed degreasing, cleaning, lubing and polish. He did a great job and next time I will make room for a find like this.I know its a Beach box but unsure of the vintage.

I have the same Yorktown box I picked up a few years ago off Craigslist from the original owner. The only difference being the shape of the handle. Unfortunately, I don't remember how long he said he had it or if I even asked the question, so I'm no help as far as age of the box.

My 6 drawer Yorktown is very similar and I bought it in 1976 or 1977,
when I was in high school.

Lovely work on the box ,
did you remove all the old finish ? Sanded or scraped , I've got the same box that needs refurbing ( and a little repair for a split on the side where the screws go in )
