My Weapon of Choice is the Record No.25 came with the bench from my late Father-in-law.. I love it because of the throat depth in it.. I can get tyres in there to break the bead.. :)

Heading for a re-position and resto on it soon.

I think it's worth it as I've had it 20 years and it was old when I got it. :) I got a new record for the other end of the bench and the casting shattered the first time I clamped something up in it.. so I'll stick with the old stuff..

Thru: nice find on the old 8 inch Wilton bullet with the jaws that bolt through the back of the jaw towers. how much does it weigh without a swivel and surprising it isn't crushing your wicker chair. nice comparison pic with the baby. any chance you had it apart to transport it and maybe tell us the date stamped on the slide?

GMan: nice find on Bl00's post that Jacobson sold to Rock Island.

TOP: that's a lot of work sitting in those two pictures of your tailgate full of vises. looks like maybe another trip to St. Louis is in the cards??

LEE: thanks for posting and nice that you could find a home for your FIL's old Record. i like those big old English vices and one day i'll own one that weighs over 100 pounds.

ALL: i might be seeing a friend that is getting up in years and wanting to sell a few of his vises at the end of this month so my 3 week dry spell might go a bit longer while i save up some funds and end with some cool old gems. i'll keep you posted

Drives: I haven't weighed it yet but will soon and will post the weight and see if there is a date stamping on the slide. Funny how much you can lift when purchasing a tool when you need to take possession of said tool but how much heavier it is when you need to move it once you own it. That vise was going in my vehicle come hell or high water but now I can barely budge it. A friend and I got it from the vehicle to a foot inside the garage. Hope everyone is getting a little time off and a special thank you to our troops at home and abroad. Cheers.

Outlaw, my smaller Stanley says Stanley Handyman no. H1207 on end of spindle- it's the 2-tone in pic above. In the clamp area, it has pat. 1999600 and Made In USA.

The red swivel base has pats. 1999600 and 1959936 in the clamp area. There is a C 590 here also. Made In USA on the outside of swivel base.

Edit: both patents were assigned to Stanley Works
http://www.datamp.org/patents/displayPatent.php?number=1,999,600&type=

http://www.datamp.org/patents/displayPatent.php?number=1,959,936&type=

Interesting that both the dual shaft slides and the swivel base lock were covered, and assigned to Stanley, So either Stanley made them under contract, or sold the licence rights to MF and others, or the Patents ran out and they were made later.

Certainly many companies had them, and I think i even have at least one tiny one made in japan..

Thanks G-Man for the repost.---After looking it up I remember seeing that post, but it's been about 4 years ago and that's more than 15 minutes, so I'm excused.---And might know it was B100 with the info.---That man is a whiz.

Dave, since we see that Rock Island bought up Jacobson's patents, It's probably a sure thing that that 7''er was a,----now let me see, what was it Old called them?:headscrat

Thru, You are going to love working with an 8 incher.---My beater is an 8'' Columbian and it's a pleasure.---For thirty years it was a 6'' Columbian stationary which I wore the jaws smooth on, but then found this 8''er.---Once you go 8'', you'll never go back.---You might set up a smaller one for different applications, but you will never get rid of the big one.---Oh and my Columbian is one of those,---now let me think, what was it Old called them.:headscrat

I stumbled upon another Emmert tiger today, this one is a 5 inch model 44 weighing in at 82 lbs. It is in great shape but I am a little unsure if the handle for the rotating base is original. Here are some shots with its big brother.

Taking suggestions on a color scheme...

WW: maybe Yellow since you already have the John Deere green on the other one?

nice find and i still haven't seen an Emmert bench vise or that triple swiveler they make in person.

Thru: no kidding a vise is a TON heavier after you own it than as you were buying it and carrying it to your rig. looks great and just an FYI i usually remove the horseshoe and main screw so i can move it in three pieces and when i put it back together i don't have to hold a 100 pound dynamic and try to get the screw in the vise nut started. good luck

Joe, the screw retainer is press or compressed fit in and I've seen people break the vise trying to unscrew the screw back out. Heat might help, but overall, not recommended.

I do like the look of those Emmert Tigers. I haven't come accross one in the wild yet. I do have a pattern makers vise by Emmert as well as a 4a machinist vise....keeping my eyes open for a Tiger. Ed.

Yes this is a strange place to find an Emmert pattern makers vise but it is pretty handy mounted here on the platen....sits below the platen deck and swivels to get clear in the front too. Sometimes you just need an iron hand. I can take it off if the going gets rough. It is more solidly mounted then you would think looking at the pic. Ed.

We discussed that a few pages back, the pics have changed. If you saw the original pics you'd see a HUGE welded crack in the dynamic jaw. The seller has subsequently removed the pics showing the damage.

Thank you for the pictures, those are sweet... makes me a little jealous [emoji4]

Drives - yellow may contrast the fireplace a little too much. Considering a dark blue..

ORC: that might be the best Emmert vise and stand combo i've ever seen. WELL DONE

I have to agree that i've never seen a pattern maker's vise attached to a steel (or cast iron) platen table like that before, but if it works and you like it then who am i to argue that it isn't the best spot for it. i think i see the huge cast iron elbow that your 165 pound Prentiss #22 sits on just behind your Emmert patternmaker's vise. you have quite an arsenal sir. VERY WELL DONE!!

WW: your vise your color is the rule and since i'm a Seahawk football fan blue/green works for me if you like it.

Nice looking Paramo, Jeremy!

Where on earth did you find one around here?

Hey Joe...How have you been?
I found the Paramo up in Cloquet. Went up the north shore for a few days and picked it up on our way home.

Very interesting. I wonder what the max clamp force rating on that is, seeing as how it is a full weldment.

Happy 4th everyone.

I started my day off with a bang! Scored these two off of fb within 45miles of me and there are more where these came from. Just saved me a trip to old St. Louie!
They are some ugly ducks but I know a guy that can fix that! Some guys just shouldn't be allowed to paint...
Pretty noticeable size difference from the 4" to the 6".
