kr555 9 to 8 drawers

when did the transition from 9 to 8 drawers in the kr555 happen? did it even happen?

i have a 79 that has friction drawer glides, and 9 drawers. i thought roller bearings and 8 drawers appeared in the kr655, but i am noticing other boxes people are identifying as kr555's with 8 drawers.

i suppose it could have been an ordering option, but there seem to be a lot of the 8 drawer units around.

is the bottom box a kr555 or a kr655?

your enlightenment would be appreciated.

my KR555 is an '85 (?) and has 8 drawers.
friction slides except for the bottom drawer

mine was the last series before SO switched to full roller slides.

That set is a KR655/650, all ball bearing minus the top split drawers. The KR555 was offered in a 8 and 9 drawer version, the later KR655 was only offered in a 8 drawer version.

how can you tell from the images? does the logo used give it away?

was the kr555 offered in 8 or 9 drawers at the same time?

not that it matters, i suppose, just curious . . . .
