A few months ago I saw this in Auto Zone and forgot to mention it on here. What we have here is a Duralast 3" wobble extension with built in led light. Seems like a decent idea, but has anyone actually used one? I don't own any Duralast tools, but have heard some good reviews on them. As a 2 part question - how are their wobble extensions and is this actually useful?

This was in a John Ritter movie 30 years ago...
He was messing with someone else's girl with one on, the boyfriend walked in with a different color one on...
Kinda looked like a star wars lightsaber fight.
Next scene he was talking about being arrested for "cockfighting"
Think it was called "Skin Deep":D

Honestly, I think the following paragraph will be my future if I encounter one out in the wild.

I will be waiting for the parts I ordered at the parts counter. I will be bored, walking around the store aimlessly. I will see a LED extension on the rack and think "Interesting idea, I wonder if this LED extension will ever come in handy. I'll go ahead and pick one up to try it out. After all, it doesn't seem to be selling so now it's on clearance for only two dollars so I'm not out much if it disappoints." Then over the next year I will encounter one situation where my task light or headlamp doesn't quite get light where I need it. I will think to myself "Oh yeah, let's try out that new LED extension I picked up". I will get it out of my tool drawer, use it, it will work, and I will temporarily feel like my $2 was well spent. Then over the following year I will never encounter a need for it again and the internal battery will go dead. I will never bother to replace the battery because it either can't be replaced or else it isn't a tool worth buying a new specialty battery for. The extension will end up being a purchase I regret. I will throw it away or sell it at a garage sale as part of a couple dollar tool lot when I periodically go through all my tools and cull unnecessary items to free up space in my tool chests.

Don't forget that since you will forget to replace the battery that the seal will break and battery acid will leak corroding the battery compartment making it useless for its new owner. Ask me how I know this.

Yeah, I can't see a use for the light. There have been a few occasions where I have used my cheapo wobble extensions though. Sometimes there are situations where a swivel socket doesn't quite cut it but you need just that little bit of bend to get into someplace. Mine are HF and they can strip with a bit of force but I could see a better quality one being useful if you do a lot of work in tight areas. I used mine on a couple of different transmission/engine removals for the bolts on the top of the bell housing. I don't do enough of it to buy the truck quality ones though as they don't seem to work well when not in wobble mode. I can't see replacing regular extensions with them for example but useful when you need them.

And I foresee my experience to be just the opposite. I see this being sooooo handy I buy one to keep in my truck. And the moment comes when during my travels I come across a broken down bingo buss full of card laden blue hairs in dire need of my assistance. And while diagnosing the cause of their dismay I find the bolt holding the ignition fluid bottle loose but the area is so dark I'm unable to see the head of the bolt. BUT walla!, I have just the tool to save the day! In an instant I reach for my salvation and commence with tightening the offending means of attachment. And at the exact moment of achieving the proper torque the extension snaps and shorts out. The spark immediately ignites the greased coated undercarriage and engulfs the buss in flames killing all aboard.

And I spend the next 300 years of my life carrying out multiple consecutive life sentences for man slaughter with my new wife Tripod the 400lb man mountain.

I think I'll pass.

Ok, so what if Snap On made one? I bet a lot of people would buy them because it's really not that bad of an idea. Toptul, Husky, Kobalt, and some others make them, but realistically they're probably all the same.
