Thanks Canoe,

Yours looks in great shape!!

Thanks, it was hardly used by the original owner & unfortunately not currently being used by me. I went to buy something else he had listed (can't recall at the moment) & he asked if I'd be interested in this box. Didn't really need it, but the price was right, so it came home with me.

I got a couple old tool catalogs this morning.

Here's something not far from me. I'd like to see what tools aren't showing, but I've had such a **** week, I don't feel like leaving my recliner to check it out in person.
Do you think the Cman box was originally red? Late 60s-early70s? Looks like it's sitting on a bench not a cart.
https://allentown.craigslist.org/tls/5673123344.html

I have recently seen another box in this black - grey combination.

Lug - that's a cool find. What goes in a box like that, parts, tools, both?
Jnevill - I saw a G box similar to yours for $325. All parts intact, fairly clean. Dunno if that's a good price, my uncle said he got one with instruments & tools in it for $200 a year or two ago.

Both.

Here's a photo I took of a nearly-complete kit at a WWII militaria show a few years ago.

M1917RepairKit.jpg

You can see the shred of a contents label on mine with some of it (nuts, screw, springs, Bayonet, etc) visible. This guy's near-complete kit had the entire contents label still under the lid. (I don't like the leather strap that guy had on his box. He should've aged it.)

At this link are a few photos of another empty chest with the original contents label intact, as well as a digital scan of the same contents from a manual.

Met up with Sam in PA this morning and we each got one of these. Perfect as it will lip-mount on the side of one of my snappy cabs. If he posts what I'm pretty sure is a 40's Bonney box I may get upset! I had to leave early.

Last thing I did Friday before turning in for the night was to check Clist. A three boxes for $45 add was only 35 minutes old. It included a Snap-On, an unknown (that looked pretty nice), and a sad looking Craftsman. From the pictures they all looked a bit rusty, but not too bad. Also a couple drawers showed a few tools still inside. These I figured would be removed before sold. I wake up with a text on my phone to come and get them, he's telling me he's surprised at the responses. That I figure is my clue to make a dash and grab them before someone makes him an offer he can't refuse. To my surprise, when I pick them up, there's quite a few tools that he isn't interested in cleaning out. Lots of Craftsman, a few Mac, Proto, Snap-On, Matco, New Brittain, Husky, Gedore (German), Kobalt, and a bunch of no name USA and Chiwanese sockets. Taps, what I'm thinking are thread chasing dies, an antique Ford wrench, I even found a Rapala fishing lure my buddy claimed. :bounce:

Wondering what make the unknown box is, seems very well constructed with great side handles and a nice drawer layout. Even empty it's a tank, can't believe how heavy these old boxes are.

And a few more of the boxes with pics of the contents. Anyone know what the Mac prying type tool in the last pic is for?

I'd say the unknown is also a Snap-on.

i think the Mac "pry bar" is for setting the toe on alignments.

I had a chance to look it up and you're right on Outlaw, a tie rod sleeve tool.

Another thing I found was a Snap-on VW brake adjusting tool. Most all of the sockets are metric, must've belonged to a foreign car mechanic at one time.

I'd say the unknown is also a Snap-on.

I remember reading Snap On has identifying numbers stamped in, but don't remember where to look? I don't know if it shows in the pics, but there is a rectangular clean spot where an emblem was at one time.

Yes, that is the correct emblem. It's a 70's snap on KRA59, other is a 60s snap on KRA55. They are both stamped model and year on the back.

This may be the emblem that fits the rectangular spot on my box. Sure would be nice if this is also a Snap-On box.

assuming that the red box without badge is the unknown box you are trying to identify, the exposed piano hinge on front of box with closed lid separates it from the Snap-on feature of the hinge being hidden with lid closed.

Thanks Zkling, I found the stampings and found that they are indeed both Snap On. KRA 59E for the unknown and KR 58B for the one with the Snap On logo.

I see what you mean, all the other pics I've found have the hidden hinge.

Edit: After looking at it further today, the front panel is bent to the point where the hinge is exposed. Too bad someone didn't use a little oil on the hinge before they forced it open.

A little hard to read:

KRA 59E, 2229969 with 81 off to the side.
KR 58B, 8930 with 58 off to the side.

What does the KRA and the KR signify? Figure 7 digit and the 4 digit are serial numbers, 81 and 58 are the year of manufacture?

i was thinking that perhaps the exposed hinge was a result of force, especially in that the hinge did not appear to be fully committed to being an external variant.

btw, great pick-up on all your items.

Can anybody ID this box? It appears that the crinkle green paint is original. It is a rather thin metal, with a metal handle and tray that slides back when the lid is open.

My first tool chest set in my first (non-rental) garage. Please excuse the mess, I'm still getting things organized from my move. Anyway, its a vintage Duplex 1225 top box and 1215 bottom box. Picked them up for $75 on craigslist last Friday.

Its missing the locking bar for the bottom cabinet, and has a little surface rust on the edges of the bottom.

I have the exact same box at home, it's a Kennedy Kits CS-16 box I believe. I'll post some photos and dimensions after work.

While the metal may "seem thin", I've loaded a LOT of weight into that box and it never complained!

The only think I don't like is you have to open the lid fully to get the tray out of the way to access the main compartment, which means you need room behind the box to open the lid all the way.

Although dimensions would confirm it, it looks like your right. I see it advertised on eBay as a tackle box. The green paint threw me off, I assumed it was SK at first.

16" x 7" x 7-1/8" tall, roughly. Mine's in the more typical Kennedy brown and, like yours, only has the single latch. Tough to find good historic info on the boxes, but I haven't looked too much. Odd that the photos of the green boxes seem to have the latch painted. There are a couple threads on here about the same boxes.

Don't mind the green in the photo of the reinforcement foot, my camera picked the wrong white-balance for the florescent shop lights.
