Love the heart wheels on the cart. Maybe name your own gas company, use the colors of bright red, bright yellow and green?

The wooden handle tool board came out great and the gas caddy is a awesome piece, can't wait to see it after the master is finished with it

Thanks BF
The tool board is a nice addition to the garage and like you I can't wait to see the gas cart all shined up

Wow, hosting hundreds of people, you're the man. It is awesome that you open your place up. I imagine there were a lot of ohh and awes and I can't imagine.
The first annual national Garage Journal hoe down, Don style has a nice ring to it.
And since you don't have many tools, admission is one antique tool.

Shorty
I would entertain the idea of a GJ get together with free admission.
I have a group coming by tomorrow afternoon they are with a tour group checking out car shops around So Cal before going to the roadster show this weekend.

Love the heart wheels on the cart. Maybe name your own gas company, use the colors of bright red, bright yellow and green?

Herb
Those heart wheels are what drew me to the cart. The color scheme is still on the table for debate. I will have to make a decision soon.

The gas cart is moving along. I spent the day taking it apart and smoothing out the cast iron pieces

As I had mentioned earlier, We had a group of guys (33) stop by today to tour the garage. They were from West Virginia, Texas and Arizona. The W. Virginia guys drove their hot rod all the way from home

My wife is a West Virginny. It would interesting if she knew any of your guest. Thank you again for sharing everything you love (except Mrs. Long)

I didn't know any of them. It was a tour set up by NHRA in conjunction with the Roadster show this weekend.

Don, please tell me you've got more pics of those beauties ;)

Sorry Crown

That is the only pic. I took of the group.

New arrival for the party garage.
I just recieved a stack of old news papers from
april 1944 to put out by the barber shop in an old news rack

opz91s.jpg

What a kick reading the adds in the papers and seeing the prices of things.
There are a bunch of automobile service adds on how to take care of your old cars due to the fact that there are no new ones available.

I always enjoy reading articles and looking at the ads. Shows how some things are the same and how technology as changed.

On a bitter sweet note is those headlines. 1944, the U.S. A proud nation that kicked ***, now 2016 a whipped nation.

The headlines are interesting as well. It shows how little we worried about being Politically Correct back then. Now days our culture seems to worry more about not hurting the feelings of anyone, enemies included. The papers show a very interesting bit of our history and culture shift. Should be another good addition to your collection.

On the first paper it has a news article about suspect being caught in the phone booth? What did he do?
Its funny that young kids today wouldn't know what a phone booth was

Papers are ultra cool.

I like that.

Hi Grizz
Welcome back
I was blown away when a buddy of mine called and said he had found them and wanted me to have them.

I always enjoy reading articles and looking at the ads. Shows how some things are the same and how technology as changed.

I agree Shorty

And can't really comment here. I went back and took a couple of shots of the adds so you could get a chuckle out of them.

Again I agree rmalkow2 but

I am very pleased to have them by the Barber shop. Can you just imagine the conversations going on in the shop in April 1944!!

Hi Herb

Cool huh.
I went back and tried to read the article. Times have sure changed. The guy was arrested for shooting 2 women and he went into a phone booth, called his landlady and while talking to him on the phone for 2 hours her husband contacted the police and told them where he was. Pretty good huh.

Here are a couple of pages with the adds of the time

Hi David

Iv'e started hearing rumblings about the welcome party in August. It might be a biggin!! I know of several local guys that are planning to drive over so we will need to figure out a way to collect the fee from them here at the garage.

Good catch BUGTHUG

I had to go back to the last hotrod pic. I posted to see what you saw.
We have 3 African Spur Tortoises, 2 weigh in over 75 lbs and the small one checks in at 15 lbs. We have had the large female and the smaller one (another female) for several years and the big male got here about 3 months ago from a tortoise rescue
The small one fit in my palm 5 years ago. They are quite the attraction and conversation pieces.

(the male is out front)

Don: cool looking Turtles. do they pretty much stay in one area and are they pretty easy to take care of?

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished gas cart. when you say replace old galvanized and steel pipe with brass are you buying NEW PIPE or do you have a stockpile of old brass pipe laying around? also do you have one or more chrome guys that do your chrome work and about what would it cost to chrome that amount of parts?

funny you say there is a BIG PARTY in the near future at your place and we barely heard about one that had 600-700 people there. how many people are in a BIG PARTY?

cheers and keep up the great work.

Don, yet again just awesome work.

Your attention to detail is just amazing.

Regards

Thanks 1/2 Cup
Nice of you to check in on the happenings at the party garage

Pump is looking good Don! Neat tortoises too! Are they pretty low maintenance to keep healthy?

Hi Coop

I'm having fun with the pump, everything is rusted tight probably not moved in 95 to 100 years.

The tortoises are always hungry but not any problems if they stay dry

Don: cool looking Turtles. do they pretty much stay in one area and are they pretty easy to take care of?

Yes they are very happy just roaming around their yard keeping the grass cut short

Unfortunately no brass scrap pile, so its new pipe @ about $50.00 per foot
4 2 foot pipes $400.00 I ordered them today.
I have 2 sources for chrome high quality and cheap. Quality chrome will set me back around $350.00 and if I go cheap it might run $225.00 for that stack of metal so nuts and bolts go cheap and the handles and rods will be good quality

funny you say there is a BIG PARTY in the near future at your place and we barely heard about one that had 600-700 people there. how many people are in a BIG PARTY?

cheers and keep up the great work.

any party over 300 is a lot of work if we serve food

Thanks for the visits guys
Here is what I mean when I say I'm having fun with this project. Look at the size of my pipe wrench

All last week I worked on the gas cart, chasing broken bolts and breaking rusted pipe loose, grinding ruff casting marks, filling holes with brass and bondo, priming and sanding til my finger tips are worn off. Tonight I'm ready to take 47 pieces to the chrome shop and 20 pieces to be powder coated

Here is a shot of the pieces ready for chrome

2wp3y86.jpg

Here is a before shot of some of the smaller pieces

qnmvkg.jpg

Here is the polished brass pieces going to be clear coated

o8us21.jpg

The other parts have been ground, sanded, primed and sanded again going into the booth tomorrow for the last coat of primer

1hweg7.jpg

That makes 76 pieces total so far and that doesn't include the box or the wheels. I'm out of grinding discs and 3 inch sanding discs so it's back to the store tomorrow.
I'm waiting on my sand blasting air compressor to come back from the repair shop so I can work on the box and wheels.

We keep war years issues of Look and Life and Colliers magazines in our guest rooms.
I have a hundred or so that we rotate.

I have war era Popular Mechanics and Road and Track[or equivalent] [one explained how to screw a set of treads from a bad tire onto your good casing] in the shop.

Just something to consider....

That sounds like great reading. Those folks had to really think outside the box to survive for sure.

I'm thinking Signal gas. Black, Yellow and Red
The box black with the top yellow and the wheels and trim red with lots of chrome and brass

Thanks for the visit Drives

Nothing back yet. I took it to a great shop, the disadvantages are it takes more time to get things back and it is a bit more pricey The up side is that the chrome comes back flawless.

No deals on the new brass. 4 pipes $425.00

I spent the weekend out at my place on the Colorado river and had a surprise guest, My chrome plater friend and his wife dropped in for a quick visit as they were passing by and recognized me out on my dock.

Here is a couple of shots of my vacation place

Don: looks like an even more fun spot than your garage. so the myths or rumors about the Colorado river drying up don't seem to be true?

i agree paying the price to have a job done right the first time is SOOOOO worth it and especially if he's a friend too.

cheers and looking forward to more shiny objects and of course all those farm fresh finds you seem to come across on a daily basis.

No Drives
There is no place better than the garage for fun things to do. The river was a hot 118 and the water feels like about 85 so not a lot of relief and yes the river was flowing at capacity all weekend.

Here is a shot of my next project while waiting for the chrome to return.
It's a toy baby stroller a buddys wife gave my wife last week. It's going to be a quick little project unless I get too crazy with making it look like my Taylor Tot

All apart and hit with glass beeds

That's a cool little ride! How about since you have a blue ride, you could paint this one pink for the other gender?
In fact as the crazy world gets, you might have to have a third ride for the trans genders:lol:
I like collecting old ride on toys and almost everything else.
So when are you making a trip out my way? Would diffently enjoy a stop by:thumbup:

I have a handle to build for it and a lot of rod bending and then chrome.
Guys do a ton of crazy on these strollers with paint schemes.

I would love to head your way for a road trip late this summer. I'll keep you posted
