After the first cleaning with WD-40 but I found Kroil oil cleaned a little better.

It seems in excellent shape. Bushings look good. I don't want to take it down to bare metal with acid and am thinking a good cleaning with Pine Sol might be the better way to go. Don't think I have to paint it either but it is a boring color. The Craftsman motor with it is 1/3 HP. Not as big as many of the floor models I see here but my first DP.

Post WWII I guess, 1950's or 1960's?

Homecraft was Delta-Rockwell's line designed primarily for home use but it is outstanding quality and looks to be in real nice condition. I picked up a 14" Delta a couple of years ago, cleaned, wet sanded and then clear coated the original paint and it came out beautifully. It looks like yours would benefit from that type of mild restoration. Check out the following link to determine the born-on date for your DP.

Technically I would say that was prior to any Rockwell involvement. It's a Delta machine.

Can you show a close-up of the Rockwell badge? I ask because I'm wondering if the badge is a Company badge, and this DP was used in a Rockwell factory.

That is a standard Delta/Rockwell badge for that era. Every Homecraft tool had one in addition to the Delta Milwaukee/HomeCraft badge. It's the D/R badge that has the s/n stamped on it.

It looks like the serial # is V4201. I can't find any numbers like this in the link provided by Brad.

I also don't have the optional light, damn. But I do have the original chuck key.

Those are nice little home shop DPs. I've kept one in the basement for years for small jobs. Just don't try to drill large diameter holes in steel and it will serve you well.

Yours still has the earlier Delta-style pulley guard. Here's the later Rockwell-style and spatter-paint finish.

It's major brain-strain and ultimately unimportant when dates of the badging and guards changed.

I found pics on the Vintage Machinery site. Still could not make any sense of the serial number. A 1950's drill press had a different style belt guard but I found one pic of a 1947 ad that had a DP in it and it looks pretty much like mine.

May never know exact vintage but approximate tells us something about the evolution of the tools.

I second the motion for suckage. I haven't been on here long enough to have the criteria memorized for suckage but it sure looks that way to me!

The criteria for suckage is simple :
- a picture must be posted
- the price paid must be declared
- rule #1 must be observed by the poster

RULE #1
A member cannot solicit or imply suckage for their finds.
To do so negates any possible awarding of such honors.

RULE #2
See rule #1

Yes, a $20 drill press is **** worthy.

I agree it's a nice find but this is a light duty DP. Suitable for wood and soft or thin metals. Enough for most anything I might need a DP for I think. But a much better thing would be one with bearings instead of bushings (one of the bushings is shown in the first post pics).

Very Nice! I just picked up the same DP a week ago and it's a good one. My also has the optional light.
Me too, got the same D/P a while back, it's waiting for paint.
Do you have the delta light with yours, RHJO51;5861381?
I have one of those on my delta Bandsaw,
I got another one here, needs polished and a
new socket/wire.
