How many ceiling fans and what kind?

My 24x40 shop is being completed this week and I was wondering if you guys thought 1 fan would be sufficient or should I get 2? That shop will be insulated, but no heat or air. 12 foot side walls and I live in Oklahoma where it is going to be over 100 degrees this week.

Thanks guys. Please let me know if there is anything else you would recommend as I don't know much outside of reading this forum as much as possible.

I recently took a blower out of a discarded Gas Forced Air Unit, put a switch and cord on it and renamed it "Cheap *** Fan".

I'll probably just stick with something 60 inches and under although those bigass fans do look nice.

I have (5) 56" 6000 cfm fans mounted in my 30x40 on a 13' 6" ceiling. You can feel the air flow only a little. 1 would be a waste of time, as would 2, IMHO.

I went with two fans. One over the main workbench area and the other over the area where a car would be parked while working on it.

I looked at overhead fans but decided not to go that route. Big *** are amazing but a lot of money and require a lot of overhead clearance. I don't think you'll have that in your shop.

i went with two Airmaster 30" oscillating fans that are on the wall. Move an amazing amount of air. Bought from Zoro.com with a 20% off day. Price was about $220 each after discount with free shipping. They work great.

Also offer pedestal versions. In general in high heat you want to feel the air on you directly. Overhead I don't think will give you enough air movement without a big investment.

These fans are installed in Arkansas, so about 95+ degrees in the summer is common.

In my build thread, I've got info on the ceiling fans that I chose. They are industrial style and variable speed and reversible controlled by a simple control panel on the wall. The 3 of them move a lot of air in my shed and make it very comfortable in there.
For your shed, 2 of them would be sufficient.

Based on what I have in my "great room" I'd say 2 x 60" diameter (or largest one can buy, maybe its 54"?) if shopping at the big box stores.

I have an industrial pedestal fan but its too much air...I'd rather have a couple of $12 box fans here and there to help cool me if the overhead isn't enough.

Make sure they're mounted slightly above or at the same plane as the lighting fixtures or else you'll get the "strobe" affect as well as fixtures swaying if they're not rigid mounted.

You need the maximum amount of insulation you can possibly have in the ceiling !!!

I have one 14'ø Big *** Essence in my new 40x60 shop and it's plenty of air movement in the hot summer! Have not had it through a winter yet, but the building is very well insulated with a propane heater.
