I am setting up, or plan to set up, a simple hydroponic system and need to drill 2" holes on 6" centers in a 3-4 inch pvc pipe. Whats the best way to secure this so the holes are in good alignment? I have a drill press.

thanks

If you have a drillpress set up a table or bolt down a length of 2 X 6. Then attach a piece of squared off wood to one or both ends. This will keep the whole piece flat and square to your table.

I agree... put up a flat fence to run it along, and hot glue it or something to a 2x6 to make sure "top" always stays facing straight up.

Or check your local big box home improvement store.
They make pipe like that for septic systems.

Lay the pipe on a flat surface, tape a sharpie to a square piece of 2x and run a line down the pipe. Clamp a length of 2x4 to your DP table that 1/2 the diameter of the pipe from the CL of the quill. If your against the 2x with the pipe and rotate the pipe toll you center the cutter on the sharpie line your good to go.

You can lay a piece of angle iron on the pipe to get a good straight line, and then just mark it every 6 inches. Its just PVC, you should be able to use a 2" hole saw and hand drill it, if you dont want to set it up in the drill press, but the roundness is going to be aggravating. Good Luck.

If it's shorter than your walk in door jamb, you can use the door jamb and draw a line down the edge.

Or lay a piece of angle on it, and use that if you need something longer.

Another option would be to lay the pipe flat, and use a level to find the tangent at the top on each end. Then snap a chalk line along the length .

In any case, you'll want a V block in the drill press to hold the pipe.

LOL....

It's funny how you can scratch your head on something like this and get another set of brain cells on it and get great solutions. I feel dumb.
