Wow 40x60 is huge. I had to scale back because I couldn't afford the concrete for anything bigger than a 24x40.

Beautiful building you have there!

Steevo... no worries, you're not alone. I am stuck building a 24 x 30. :)

Your shop looks great! I wanted to do radiant floor heat, but decided to go with the radiant tube heaters instead. I know your shop will be way more comfortable than mine. Great build.

Very nice, FireWrench! In the first picture, you have a paint mark on the insulation.....what is that for? And for $31K, no floor.....you had to pour it? Thanks.

Thats correct 31K was building only no floor. And the paint marks are grade markers for the power trowel and where I was going to put expansion joints before I figured out expansion joints are not a good idea with radiant floor heating.

Dumb questions from a So. California guy: I'm not sure I've ever heard of a pole barn out here. Are these somewhat unique to other parts of the country for some reason or maybe just unique to rural areas where large out buildings are used, not in a suburban environment?

For future reference, you build the building in place first and place the slab afterward? So, the "pole" building refers to placing the main structural uprights (i.e. poles) plumb and down to below the frost line? (where that applies).

For the $31K quoted, is this a D-I-Y kit or does the seller erect the building? What all is included, i.e. roofing materials? color choices (or do you have to paint it yourself?), doors, windows?

Thats correct.

And yes builder erected the building. You have color choice of almost any color you want and its just pre painted steel siding. Price will very depending on number of doors and windows and there sizes.

Great looking building, just getting ready to move into my 40x64x12. How did you do the insulation?[/QUOTE]

Its just regular Owens Corning paper back R-19 run from the celling to the floor and stapled to the studs.

Will you put a vapor barrier on that insulation? Is it necessary? Probably use a kraft face insulation on ceiling too? Barn is awsome, twice the size as mine... I am happy to have a pole barn (man cave) though!!

I asked three different people. All of them said vapor barrier was only necessary for the ceiling. So none in the walls, no.

Great barn.......

I'm a few steps behind you, so I may follow your lead on much of it.

Here's my unfinished 40x80

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53807

I'm going to wall off and divide it 40x40 and 40x40.....then insulate and radiant floor tubing......so I may be picking your brain a lot.....

Thanks for the very detailed shots.

1. explain the floor drain, is that to trap sediments first? how many did you install?

2. that looks thicker than r19?? so you ran 2x4's to support the osb sheating?

3. what thickness of osb did you use? on the ceiling? on the walls? are you gonna run a bead of caulk around the perimeter where the osb meets the floor?

4. using blown in for the celing?

5. what lights did you wind up going with? how many? plenty of light?

sorry so many ?'s but your build is VERY similar to what i want to do......and i need to go back and reread the thread, you may have answered most of this...

edit: nice bunch of toys ya got there.....i have a buddy that rides a man killer, too......i had him out in the prowler 1000 the first time and he said, "let me out of this thing!" the first time you ride in a sidexside, it's a religious experience.....you're having the time of your life but riding balls to the wall with someone else in control is a scary thing.......
