Nice job jreb. I love that style and size of vise. How are the jaws? Are they hand filed serrations or smooth. I like your color choice and the gold lettering is just right.

Has anyone seen a vise like this this foot operated one. Called a Browns Foot Lock Vise. It has a heavy anvil and looks like it opens up pretty far. Has pipe jaws to. That is Texas in the background.

I've seen one of those before but can't remember where. Probably here lol. Is that vise air operated?

There were hundreds of different Parker models, and many are worth that or more if the condition is OK. (not broken or welded)

The jaws were pretty well fitted at the factory. Not quite up to KMScott standard, but pretty good.

I think they may be hand serrations, but I am not sure. They are not deep, and judging by the good condition of the vise I don't think they were worn down by use.

They look like hand serrations done on a file machine. Those jaws are fit pretty good. I would be happy with a fit like those. That vise has not seen much use. I like it.

Nope, foot operated, one is a ratchet movement the other pedal is for the lock release.

How about one of these. Looks like it might be a Parker, at least it has the Parker style jaws. Would another company copy Parker's design??? gotta see more of this vise. A Texas collector who is good friends with Demoman who has a great collection of his own sent me a few pic's of very interesting vises. Gonna help him with some 8" jaws.

No idea of weight but by looking you can tell it is heavy. My friend who owns this vise thought I might know something about this vise since it has replacement jaws. Maybe he knows it's weight, I'll ask him. I thought I would share with you guys and maybe some one hs seen one before. I got more to share with you guys.

Looks to be in pretty nice shape, other than the missing wrench. Give it a close inspection, look for cracks or welds, and check the condition of the screw and nut. If it checks out, I'd say it's a good buy for $60.

The bottom screw supports the loop of the eye and the two side jaws hold the free and working ends together for splicing. The vises are quite large, too!

I was in San Francisco last weekend, and saw these vises at the warf where the old sailing ships were preserved. They seem to be splicing vises for holding rope or cable ends while making eyes. The bottom screw supports the loop of the eye and the two side jaws hold the free and working ends together for splicing. The vises are quite large, too!

You are mostly correct. They are for wire rope. I have used different versions of these quite often. I have no need and no desire to use one again.

If we are talking about the biggun in the back left of the pic, I'd say a Prentiss as well... At first I thought American Scale but when I blew up the pic the spindle bolt head isnt AS.

Kevin I have what appears to be the same vise as that one pictured. It's a pretty big vise. In this picture it's sitting between an old Reed 108 and Prentiss 97. It easily weighs just as much as those two. But I'm also unsure of the maker. It looks a lot like a Prentiss but Something tells me it may be a Yost. Mine has a few Y's embossed on it. Which I've see on several Yost vises. Ive had it for a few years now but haven't had a chance to clean it up. Maybe once I strip it down I'll reveal something that will give me a definitive answer.

Like you and Demoman and a few others here, he is a collector of more then vises. He speaks highly of you. Today he drove into Canada picking up several anvils and a couple vises.

I agree with you that the country side behind the foot vise looks like New Mexico, never been in Texas and took a guess.

Meatsis: does your big Yost vise have a swivel jaw because it's hard to tell in the picture? is it a 7.5 inch wide jaw? interesting if it's a Yost because it looks identical to a Prentiss #23. i know it's not easy to pull out those big guys for pictures so if you have any other pictures of it to post from all sides that would be great. thanks
