I have a Wayne Dalton idrive Pro Torquemaster Model 3790 garage door opener. I love it. It is extremely quiet, fast, and there are no overhead chains rolling around during operation as this unit twists a rod on the door overhead.

There is a programmable light fixture in the middle of my garage ceiling that used to come on automatically for a few minutes every time the garage door was opened or closed. This worked by either opening the door from the remote opener or the wall unit. Well, it quit working. I never realized how convenient a little bulb being on for five minutes after pulling into the garage at night was.

Another feature I miss is that I could also turn said light on from the battery powered wall unit without having to open the door every time. This way I do not have to turn the big florescent fixtures every time I just need to go bring a bag of trash out.

Anyways, the little light quit coming on, altogether. I checked the light bulb, the old bulb still worked but I replaced it anyway. The ceiling fixture has a red "learn" button for programming. I went through all the steps in the manual for programming the fixture to come on when the door is opened/closed. No luck. The light does come on when I press the learn button, so I know it CAN work. But the next steps do not get "learned" by the fixture. I bought a new fixture off ebay, no luck. I bought a new battery powered wall unit off ebay, also no luck. I'm pretty sure the wall unit buttons are working because when I press and hold the light function button during the learning phase the opener motor clicks and beeps, so I know the signals are going out. But neither the old nor the new light fixture in the ceiling blinks three times like the manual says.

For now the door opener works 100% with the wall unit and the remotes. I am glad we still have that going. But I wish I could get this automatic light to start working again. Any suggestions?

Of course Wayne Dalton does not make garage door openers anymore and cannot offer any assistance.

There is a output voltage on one of the circuit board chips that has failed. Since the light comes on during the learn phase, the relay is fine and all the connections are in order. The voltage to engage the relay during normal operations has failed. Replace the motor control board if you can find one or it your handy, find the light relay on the board and check the runs to the chip and relay...I'll bet the run is fried or damaged. If the board looks healthy, see what other output energizes during the on phase and add a new relay to that...but I suppose your gonna need some low voltage experience to get into troubleshooting the circuit board...in the long run, you might be better off with a new unit.

It just quit working, you changed nothing, correct?

Correct

I was afraid of this: the problem being in the motor unit because it is the last thing to troubleshoot/replace. (Already replaced the light fixture and wall button unit) I don't have any LV experience, not that I couldn't learn, but I don't even own a soldering iron at the moment. I may have to go investigate a little to at least see what I can see knowing to look for a burnt circuit in the motor control board. I just don't want to mess up the single most important thing that is working which is the motor. I may just have to live without the light from now on or at least until the motor goes out. This house is fifteen years old and this must be the second garage door opener on this door because you can see where a previous unit was mounted before. So I may have several more years of use out of this opener.

All is not lost at this point just yet, it just *****.

Thanks guys.
