Hi Don, been a while since I last read your updates. I see that you're fully immersed in the tool collecting and refurbishing, and still finding time to make changes in the shop. Has there been any progress on any vehicles? The cabover, specifically? Buy/sell any rides? Keep living the dream!

Don
I was going to ask about installing solar but a search back answered that question. An old windmill with a new generator might be a good fit.

Looking forward to the Chevy Showroom. Ford? Did Lyndon say something about a Ford? :dunno:

Thanks 1/2 Cup
Progress is slow but steady

Hi Fastphil
Nice to have you stop by again. The tools are mostly from one of two sources that I have found and restoring them is a kick for sure. The corvette is out getting chrome made for it and the truck was put on the back burner til the vette is on the road. No new cars since the Discovery chanel built my Zephyr and none have left the stable since then either. The dream is gooood
Again thanks for the visit.

Hey Don, lovin' the updates & very envious of your space!!

Have you seen this ad?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Historic-Po...-Not-Neon-Sign-Oil-/131876575959?roken=cUgayN

As it says, no neon signs but still a great building.

I would if A) I had the space B) the money & C) lived in the USA!!!

Nice to have you visit again Mister Tee
Thanks for the link to the Gas station (No room for it here) That would be nice but too big.

Don
Another project in the oasis!! Looking forward to the updates.

Hi Warren
The progress is slow and I am feeling my age. My cousin (The concrete guy) is here helping me. we work for 10 minutes and rest for 20 minutes then take the next 10 minutes figuring out where we left off and starting again lol

PT cruiser ? really ?

Hi Vernmotor
Nice to have you drop by.
The P.T. Cruiser was a gift. A friend dropped by and said that I was missing a Mopar for my collection and asked me if I would put his P.T. in my garage to round out the fleet. Viper, Prowler, and P.T. Cruiser.
It will not be parked there when the construction is finished.

Vernmotor, I don't mean to speak for Don but one of my first cars was a '47 Ford 2-door sedan. The PT Cruiser brought back a little of that look. Nothing else on the market has come close.

Hi Bob
Thanks for dropping in and supporting me.
The PT reminds me of my 40 ford sedan delivery

Don

Shorty
Nice of you to drop in. I am a Chev guy with a few fords in my stable so they need a place to park to, and signs are easy to get for fords lol

Here is where we stand 7 very hot days into the project.
Red wood tongue and groove walls with a wains cote of corrugated tin to come. The windows will be lit shadow boxes and the bay doors will have a door hanging down about 18 inches from the top.

Don: another nice addition to the Party Garage (Museum). well thought out and can't wait to see what all those plugs get used for.

also thanks for showing how you remove the neon from your sign because as of yet I didn't know how and i've been looking for a nice one for a while even though i'm not sure where i'd put it.

WELL DONE SIR!!!

The redwood is beautiful, almost a shame to cover it with signs. But some nice space to put a few signs and stuff. The 4 guys in the yellow and black could use some decorating. It looks like they are pointing up at something, you could put a Chevy or Ford, or Coca cola sign above them. And maybe have them standing on a platform like a stage. Whats the story of the 4 guys? I first thought they were singers like the 4 Seasons, but then you need a Frankie Valley. Or maybe the 4 Tops?:willy_nil

This is by far the coolest garage I have ever seen! I am traveling to Anaheim in October and would love to see it in person if possible! My little Texaco station doesn't even compare!

Don, it's always a treat when I see a new "building my BIG PARTY garage" post pop up on my list of subscribed threads. The best part is that when it looks like you are close to being finished a brilliant idea turns it back into a "building" process. As always, well done and looking forward to the next improvement.

Thanks for your kind words Drives

I find neon pretty easy to work with but very fragile
You never know where you might want to plug something in without stringing out a bunch of extension cords.

Hi Herb
great to have you drop in.I think the redwood give off a rich look and next to some old signs it should pop.
The four guys on the wall are the 4 seasons I picked them up with the planet Hollywood sign

Hi Bob
It's great to see your Avatar pop up on the party garage.
This project has been burning a hole in my brain for some time and when I heard that my cousin was available for a couple of weeks I made the bold move to git r done.

I agree you need more mopars.. maybe be some older ones. The PT just did't fit in here LOL

Thanks Buddy
Sometimes you just got to do it lol

When Don Long speaks, it is no wonder the "Collision Industry" listens. For PPG and 3M to sponsor your event, your presents in the industry both past and present is legend.

Congratulations Sir!

Ody, Thanks for that great vote of confidence.

I don't quite know how to respond to your comment. Yes I was very involved with the industry country wide and held many high ranking positions within over a 10 year period. So I guess you could say I was pretty well known.
I'm really looking forward to this gathering.

Wow Don, Ruth and I just caught up with the new walls. Impressed just does not say it. What a great look to that area. I also like the way the Goodyear sign sets off the Texaco garage with the Zepher. Once again you done good!

Give our best to your lovely bride.

Hi Don,

What a great job! I know that your peers from the industry will be blown away by the presentation of the garage. I know that every time I visit (this will be my fifth visit from Down Under) there is always something new to impress.
I cannot wait to see their expressions when they walk around the corner, see the Diner and then walk into the garage!
The Capricorn Society visitors the other month had no idea what to expect when they pulled up in front of a nice looking house. Once they got around the back they experienced the highlight of their trip!
See you next week for the next episode of visiting Don's Garage in the magazine.
Your followers can check out a previous visit report on www.nationalcollisionrepairer.com.au//wp-content/uploads/2015/06/NCR-VOL9-NO2-DONS-GARAGE.pdf

DON: OMG that place of yours is AMAZING. since you are maybe one of the KINGS of a TO DO LIST that has many items checked off and added daily i'd love to see you post some of your ORGANIZING TIPS on the new ORGANIZING 201 thread. with your knowledge and pictures it would really add some POP to that thread that i just started. I made it less about my daily life and just ORGANIZING a garage and home and property so all the members might not have to spend hours looking for a few ideas. here's the link

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=335623

no wonder guys (and gals) keep coming back to your place because i would think it would take several visits just to see a section and admire and enjoy all the items and the work you did to make them look like they do now.

cheers

Just stumbled upon this tread. All I can say is… “wow”.

Funny the amount of discussion regarding the PT cruiser… Have a friend whose dad had a very similar setup on his compound (except it was a converted airplane hangar). He too had a PT cruiser amongst his collection of fine automobiles. I always found that strange…

Anyway – great work Don!!!

Don, the new walls look like they have been there since the beginning.
I have a question about the tables that you have the scales on... did you make those or are they some kind of stacking tables? I noticed the triangle frames above the wheels, and that is a little different?
Also, just noticed the bumper cars on the roof of the mini garage. It would be neat to take a electric golf cart guts and put the bumper car on top of it. That way some of the really old people could use them to tour the compound:dunno:
I think I would trade all my collection of stuff for the 56 Chevy convertible , always my favorite car.:thumbup::thumbup:
