All the posts I found were from 2-3 years ago, so I didn't know if technology improved since then. I'm building a 40x60x16 metal building, insulated with its own 200 service to it. It's mainly gonna be a hobby shop for my projects and some storage. How many and what Led fixtures do I need? I know this is like Ford vs Chevy vs dodge, sorry but I couldn't find a cut an dry answer. Btw, this is my first post here!

Savin- I wish it was that simple. If you look thru the sticky thread "lighting layout collection" you'll find a space that has very similar dimensions to yours, already all layed out by one of the members of the forum.
Good luck

Hi Savin - The light you need is pretty much a factor of the work you plan to do and where you are planning on doing it. So to get any reasoned answers to your question - - you would need to show us a drawing that indicates where things are, and what you plan to do in any area. Hanging big expensive lights high up in a 16’ ceiling - won’t really do you much good at a work bench, or jig saw etc.

So you may want to have a few lights up high just to generally light the garage when you walk-n or around - but several other more specialized lights in different work area’s. Also no need to light the entire area - to work mostly in a 1/4 of it.

Then there is the consideration of how many window’s/sky lights, roll-up doors etc - and what direction they all face. Some garage layouts don’t need any additional light during daylight hours - others can be dark as a cave in daylight hours.

So Post up at least your preliminary layout - showing what is going to be in your hobby shop.

FWIW,
Carl B.

So the 3 12'x10' doors are now 12'x12, but everything else is the same. Small living quarters about 12'x16'.
