So I need new blades for my yard tractor.

The Lowe's here didn't have them in stock, but 1 store in Anchorage did. Head down there on my way to work and they don't have anything.

I stop by Sears a few days ago and they don't carry it. WTF! "Your mower is too old"
The tractor is from 1999 and as far as I can tell they used the same blade until 2006. All they had at the store was the new ones.

"Sorry, you will have to order it" Ok, hook me up... "Oh, well you have to do it online"... I don't have internet "Well... uh..... sorry... " and he walks off.

The internet bastards want $48 for 3 blades and $25 shipping. Yeah no thanks!

I bought a set on eBay instead for $35 shipped.

Glad you found what you wanted. Mower parts have always been a challenge for me also.

I go there last night for 3 sheets of 2" foam and a stick of 1.5" conduit.

None.

Push the help button cause no one to be found. 10 mins later someone comes by.

128 sticks of conduit and 98 sheets of foam.... but not sure where.

Now I bought all the 1.5" conduit and foam then had about 4 days before this, so no one thought to stock the shelves?

Conduit was up in the air and foam still in a truck. I go grab a couple other things while waiting for them to figure things out and when I get back the conduit I need is no where to be found. Shelf still empty.

I ended up wheeling a ladder over and got a 1/2 dozen sticks and stocked the shelf a bit for them while I was at it.

Considering Anchorage has around 300,000 people it's not like we are living in Igloos and hunting whales. Even in the villages up north most have TV, cell, internet, etc.

Technically, Sears doesn't make anything more complex than a ratchet... but that's beside the point.

This is a pretty common thing. A guy on my Torino forum just fought this battle with a spark plug for a Craftsman leaf blower (he eventually found an equivalent at AutoZone, thanks to a member who is an AZ manager). I think the best thing you can do if you buy a Craftsman power tool is to find out who the original manufacturer is so you can get parts for it!

sears doesn't make ANYTHING at all. the mower is made by AYP american yard products. parts are available at most farm and home stores as well as auto parts stores. ask your parts store if they sell "prime line" products.

Most likely good advice. Elroy doesn't have first hand knowledge of prime line. You might want to also look at Oregon. You know the same folks that manufacture chain saws. They have an extensive line of generic replacement blades for rotary lawn mowers.

Length, width, hand of cut and mounting hole size. The length being measured from cutting tip to cutting tip (the diagonal dimension). Don't believe they reference the thickness of the blade.

About 4 months. Middle of June to end of September. I need to cut it one more time this weekend and that should be it for the winter.
In the middle of summer have to cut it AT LEAST once a week, sometimes better off to do it 2 times.

In light of my recent Sears experience, I have to second this comment.

Also, I keep several sets on hand. I change the blades on everything once a month. I generally have 3 sets of each. This way I can just change em and get around to sharpening when I get a chance.

Quite running over rocks and you won't have to sharpen them!

I usually clean the deck out and sharpen the blades in the fall before putting the deck away.

I don't agree as my shop is full of craftsman tools, it's all I can afford. They take back my rejects often... lol There's bad experiences wherever you go. No 1 place can make every1 happy even if there trying. Craftsman is made by ayp witch has several parts aftermarket by stens and oregon. Your local tractor shop should be able to get your blades if they don't have them in stock.

similar story to the OP, we have a Kenmore fridge at home, it needs a new water filter for the icemaker. the fridge was purchased at sears by the previous home owner. so off we went to sears, freaking $42 after tax just for one stinkn' filter. i said fawk off no way jose. we went home, ordered a pack of 3 online for $28 shipped.

I got the blades on eBay. Made in teh USA ones too and it cost me around $35 shipped. I had to put new spindles and the spindle housings as well as some idler pulleys. All from eBay for about 50% of what Sears wanted.


When I got the tractor I did the normal tune up and oil change I do on anything that I get used. I bought everything at Sears, but I couldn't get the air filter.

Well I tried Napa and they had it, and everything else I needed too. I was able to buy 2 fuel filters, 2 oil filters, 4 plugs and 2 air filters at Napa for what Sears charges for 1 set minus the air filter.
