What's the outside of your garage look like?

I think the items you're talking about are knee braces. I could not find a pic of the ones I built for my house. But, here is a photo I pulled up on Google to give you the idea.

Just curious...
What are the staggered items sticking-up near the front edge of the roof?

Hey Shmo.......I believe he was referring to Troublemakers posting. :lol_hitti

I'm not sure what the proper terminology of them are called but they keep ice from sliding down in the winter. A shingled roof does not have to worry about it because of the rough surface, but a metal roof needs something to hold back the ice and snow. If you notice on most commercial buildings, you will see them above doorways and where pedestrian traffic is and not the rest of the building. There have been a few people killed by falling ice.

Thanks, Kevin54. I thought that might be what they were, but I wasn't sure. It's not something we have to deal too much with down south.

SHMO,

Please make your next post a new thread showing your build.

Jim

Jim, my garage is far from being exciting enough for its own thread...haha
The inside is still a blank canvas, not even a wall cabinet or shelf, just boxes and junk is all there it to see at this point. Is there a certain detail you wanted to see of the exterior?

My shop is 30x50 with a 10x50 porch down the side. The two overhead doors on the end are 12x14 and 9x8. We sold a home about 10 miles away and moved to this property Northwest of Houston Texas in March. The houses are about the same but we are now on 3.5 acres rather than .35 before. The shop was built by the PO to house a motor home and boat. The house has a two car attached garage in addition to the shop space. I also have an 8x16 shed for the non motorized lawn and garden stuff as well.

Here's my 100-year-old (or so) unattached two car. It's 18x18. I'm still working on it, but very proud of the progress. It's the reason I joined this forum, to see how you all were doing things!

Recently done:
Ran power to the garage
Installed new internal roof beams
Installed door frames
New roof (along with house)
Installed wood carriage house doors
Installed cupola (lighted at night!) and weathervane
Still to do:
Add faux door hardware
Finish paint on doors and frame
Add tool storage, cabinetry
Do something with the asphalt floor
Add outdoor lighting

Really having fun with it, though!

This garage hadn't had doors in more than 50 years. It was built of construction scrap from the original 1880 house build. A bit of a mess outside, but still working on it!
IMG_0817.jpg

Here it is in relation to the house. We have a half-acre.
IMG_0818.jpg

We just got the cupola and weather vane in New Hampshire. I lighted the cupola. Very cool.
IMG_0819.jpg

I need to hang tools on this wall. Deciding on building a closing, two door cabinet with hangars, or just installing some other system.
IMG_0821.jpg

The left bay, with the yard tools and Yamaha FJR1300 Sport Touring bike.
IMG_0822.jpg

The house will look even better in about a month with the garage finished! Here it is last year.

Okay, just guessing: an old 737? I see Sun Country, I think, on the side. But how the hell did you get that there, wherever it is?!?

Close- it's a DC-10 from Sun Country. Lots of work just to get the skin, Cranes, lift trucks, man lifts, and low boy trailers. sliced it into 10ft sections inorder to get it down the highway

Very cool. Hopefully, it'll be more stable for you than it was on landing... I hated flying in that thing back when they were commercial liners. That, the MD11 and L1011 were awful planes. You could look down the cabin on touchdown and see the whole fuselage torquing. Terrifying.

What are the plans for the build? Looks like an old quonset hut. Remember those?

Wow, there are some nice designs in this forum. I thought I would post my modest 16 x 24 cabinet shop / 1 car. I plan to add a lean-to on both sides as it is a little taller than it looks. Anyway, I really enjoy the ideas and such posted by you guys and hope to put them to use when I start my big shop dream build...

Been wanting to post some pics of my shop here, but after seeing some of you guy's places, mine is sorta just plain. I have been in the process of interior remodeling and relocating. Maybe one day.........?

Didn't build it, just found it and bought it in 1996. Wife's living area is 1680 square feet - mine is 700. Hers has appliances, furniture and bathroom fixtures. Mine has cabinets, workbenches, compressor, tool chests and two Corvettes. She lets me use one of her toilets and half a bed and I let her park her PT Cruiser in my third bay. Probably how we've stayed married for 47+ years.

Just an attached 3 car garage. Only exterior shot of garage, as we just moved in a few months ago. Has a good size shed out back to hold all the yardwork stuff though.:bounce:

My Sanctuary....

Here is mine. It was built three years ago to echo the style of our 1790 Federal style home. We had to work within restrictions related to size, proximity to the property line, and pay careful attention to style, because our house is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The window in the front gable is 150+ years old and adds greatly to the overall effect. We've had people not realize that it wasn't an old carriage house. The exterior siding is cedar.

It holds four cars (two wide and two deep) and has an upstairs.

I spend a LOT of time out there, and my twin boys have their own workshop area, too.

Teach,

That is one great looking garage. Super design and detail work.

Sounds like you were able to deal with the red tape, get a permit, and build a really nice period building.

Any pictures of the interior you could post?:)

Thanks. The inside is nowhere near as fancy as some of the others in this thread. I have a lift, heat, and all the usual stuff, but it is definitely more of a shop than a museum.

Here is the outside of ours. It is not as fancy as some of the ones on here but I try to keep our back yard clean and neat/uncluttered.

Yikes! They should have me on suicide watch as I type this.

#1 man cave rule should be:

“ No man cave construction shall be started before hanging out at garage journal for one year first.”

Wow! do you guys have some killer ideas.:bowdown::bowdown:

53d x 36w.

16ft wall west side. 13ft wall east side with walkway.

14x12w door and 10x12w door.

Radiant in floor heat in the office 16x 25 office

The sliding doors are $50.00 craigs list temp until I install the insulated garage door.

What’s in my garage? a bunch of junk already ( it don’t take long) and also the granddaughters Escalade.

The race car gets moved from the old shop into the office in this one when done.
