Made some studs to hold the headers and gaskets in place while I start the header bolts. Needless to say, swapped out some header gaskets and screwed the plugs back inthe Mustang. Also pressurized #1 cylinder to check for leaks after finding rust on the spark plug.

Hauled a Triumph TR4a out a friend's garage where it has sat since the mid 1970's. He gave it to me and my son as a project vehicle. Cleaning it out when we got home showed it to be surprisingly solid for a rust belt car. Inner and outer rockers and some patch panel work will fix the body. Son is the Asst. Manager of a body shop so we have that covered. The engine turns over freely so we might even be able to get it running before we blow it apart for a full frame off restoration.

Coming out to sunlight for the first time in 40+ years and son trying to figure out how to connect his phone to a push button AM radio.

Yes he does!

I spent a little time wire wheeling the trailer frame of some surface rust before I can do the welding and painting, I did paint the front stand.

That's a cool find! Is it a 65, 6 or 7?

It's titled as a 1966 but the serial # indicates it was built in 1965. Back in the day they were often titled by the year they were sold, not when they were made. It is a solid axle, non OD TR4a.

I have known the PO since HS back in the 60's and knew his late wife since elementary school so it is not something that I just stumbled across. He had a TR3 in HS and this was his 2nd TR4. He doesn't have the skills or desire to restore the car so I came home with me. He wrecked the right front corner and had started repairs when after years of trying his wife became pregnant and as they say "life got in the way" and the car sat in the back of the garage. I have another friend who still has his TR3 that he drove back in HS.

My son has been puzzled by these strange things called "carburetors" and "distributors" and wheels with only one lug nut although he is starting to see the value of simplicity in a car. I don't seem to remember the interior of a TR4 to be so small....or maybe I have gotten bigger and less flexible.

Keeping this garage related, I used the sawzall and numerous crowbars and prybars before hauling it all off in the wheelbarrow! Letting it dry out today, rebuild will start tomorrow with even more saws, hammers, drills and related garage tools being used.

Since I am doing this on my own (the Facebook post to family reminding them I build decks last summer for them seemed to fall on deaf ears!), I'll build it in place - hopefully without electrocuting myself in the process!

For the first time in almost a year, I sat in my garage and watched it rain...

Good for you. A little quality time in the shop doesn't necessarily have to be elbow deep in a project. Sometimes if I don't have much time or after cleaning up after a project or job is done, I will find myself just sitting and contemplating things in my shop. Kind of a Zen moment if you will.

Yep, that's exactly what I had today. We are a good ways out from having the place cleaned up and "normal" but it was nice to just sit and watch it rain for a few.

So you were sitting and relaxing while watching the rain, not that its been a year long drought...

Yeh, it's been a tough year, but yes, I did sit and enjoy the rain.. We got some of the best rain I've seen all year yesterday. Almost 4" in a matter of a couple of hours.

Don't you just love that little UMX T-28 ? Awesome plane. I have the UMX, the original 44" and the Carbon Z.

It is a blast. Almost as much fun as the real thing. :)

Took it easy last night. Got home, wiped the bike down as the temps were a few degrees cooler compared to the triple digits that we have had for the past couple of weeks, and rode the bike to our Jeep club meeting.

After the meeting sat around and BS'd for a bit, very relaxing.

Yesterday evening I trimmed the plywood for the cooler chest trailer deck 1" smaller and cut and bent some 3" aluminum angle to keep the thing on board easier/safer. It will get a security strap once I find some SS strapping for the purpose.

Today I hunted hardware, removed the axle, wire wheeled and painted it and it's hardware. it will go back under the springs instead of over them so the trailer will have better ground clearance. After that there is more clearance for bigger wheels, so eventually the 8" wheels will get replaced with 12", so the axle also will get some extra clearance. This thing is about 40" wide and 50 long, with 4 lug hubs, so bigger that that is really not in the cards...

Changed brake fluid for the whole system on my Tahoe. Nice to go from a nasty black color to a light yellow.
Lot easier than I thought it would be.

Finished getting the axle back under the trailer. sits much higher, but not too high. It should be comfortable even with the 12" rim tires I have planned, but I should put on some mud flaps now...

Put up 4 more LED shop lights. 2 in the garage, 2 in the screen room. Man I love having more light!

Put tools away and swept - Mostly leaves and Baby Acorns that didn't pollinate.

Do you have a separate thread for the build on that compressor? Sounds interesting.

If I ever get back to Costco or Sam's Club I'm gonna load up on more LED shop lights. The three I have are great but now I'd like more especially since they're daisy chainable now! I can avoid having extension cords running all over my ceiling!

As for what I did in the garage today. I worked on a yarn swift for my GF for her birthday, and later decided to finally replace my fuel filter and air filter. Thought I'd use the M12 FUEL 3/8" impact for the airbox but ran into an issue of clearance. Then I realized I can use socket extensions on this thing! Check this out. Imagine using a U-joint as well. Mwahahah!

And here's how far I am on the yarn swift. Got the base made, and the bushing driven in. Now I need to build the top half, sand and finish it and hopefully I can get all that done by the end of the week in time to give it as a gift. I had the idea a little late for something that needs to be finished.

I picked up a small hammer at a garage sale that had sprung up across the street from a bay-front fishing pier we visited today. $1.330f80779777b38bf8e46105f25cb5c4.jpg
The handle was broken and taped. In the photo is chunk of Holly I got from a piece of firewood(when this wood was freshly cut still green I turned several logs on the lathe to take the bark and outer layers off before storing on shelves in brown paper bags to cure... about 9 months ago). These blanks make good handles, pins, dowels, escutcheons etc. and they carve easily.
In my "garage" today I buffed out the hammer head and made the handle from the Holly.0d4a77fd014f25484ec4b99763e9fc76.jpg

Busy weekend. Saturday morning I put the Jeep on the lift and gave her a LOF service, rotated tires, replaced the EGR valve, spark plugs and PCV valve as well as dropped one end of each driveshaft to lube the CV joint in the driveshafts. I also checked over all suspension fasteners for proper torque and set her back down.

Sunday morning I put the wife's Acura on the lift for a service and tire rotation. I had a co-worker call to see if I could press a new bearing in his son's new RZR 1000 rear hub so he brought that over and I pressed the old one out and the new one in. I then had my son put his truck on the lift as he said he had some steering wheel shake or wobble when applying the brakes so I wanted to help him check that out. Turns out he had a rotor with a bit of runout so we pulled the front rotors and ran them up to be turned. I then grabbed the lawn chairs so my wife and I could sit outside under in the shade and relax, that is before a cloudburst drove me and the wife back inside.:dunno: Oh well, pretty good weekend over all.

Put a new fuse in the line-loc and tested it out.

Cool, does that car really run 11:95?

Also, I've been meaning to tell you, I read pretty much your whole shop build thread the other day. I'm impressed with your skills and resourcefulness.

I told my wife I thought you had the Sandra Bullock of shops. It looks really good, but not so fancy that is not approachable. It makes you think you could have a shot at landing something that cool but, most of us know we don't really have the chops or the work ethic to make it happen.
