Drill chuck replacement question

Hello All,
I've had a Home Master 5 speed 1/2 hp drill press that I got used years ago and for cheap. I'm finally getting to use it but the chuck is pretty beat.

I figured out that it was on a tapered spindle rather than a threaded one and got it off the spindle. The markings on the chuck are unreadable - maybe H-CHAU or H-C-AU? and the C might be an O.
I'm not sure where to begin. The chuck is 1/2 inch but I don't know anything about the taper. I should point out that the *spindle* has the tapered shaft. The chuck has a tapered hole. Any advise?

if it's a taper the quill will have a slot in the side to drive out the taper shank. otherwise it could be a LH thread
Thanks for the reply, I just clarified my op. The quill is a male tapered shaft (see added pic) there is no slot in the chuck as there would be in a more typical quill. I got the chuck off but is this even available?

Most those are JT-33. When you get it figured out, and decide on a keyless type go here:

http://www.cdcotools.com/ The JT-33 (#25013) is $25 ..........I have two of those in my shop and do they grip!!

I second the guess of Jacobs Taper #33. That is a very common small taper used on homeowner light duty drill presses. My 1980's Wilton drill press has that taper. I found out after I tried to put a #2 taper chuck on it.

If you want to be certain, you can use a machinist's square and rule to measure the taper per inch, then look up a drill chuck taper chart online.

Maybe not :-/ The numbers in the picture below appear to be close to B16. When I use those numbers I measured to calculate the taper, I get a number that seems too far off to match any of the tapers in the table?
0.62-0.567)/0.893 = 0.05939 taper

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for all the help guys. Yeah Larry_g's table looks like a jt33 is probably the one. So I went ahead and ordered one of Amazon. Should be here tomorrow. Will post up the results.
