Should I Wait 'Till Black Friday?

I am contemplating as to whether or not I should buy the combo set now or just wait it out 'till Black Friday and do with my Black & Decker Drill (weak torque by the way) for the meantime.

My local Home Depot has a sale going on the Milwaukee Brushless Combo Kits, 1/2" M18 Fuel Hammer Drill and Driver and get one of the following power tools / accessories (Milwaukee Cordless Reciprocating Saw, or 6 1/2" Milwaukee Frameless Cordless Circular Saw, or Free XC Battery // any of these three tools--A $129 value).

I use my HF Electric Impact Wrench, but could probably do a lot better with the Brushless Impact Wrench (Milwaukee 2763) which goes on sale as a bare tool every now and then.

Am I missing out on a good deal here? Or am I better off waiting 'till Black Friday with the one of those $150 Off Combo deals?

The Dremel 4000 goes on sale every now and then as well. At first I thought the $80 price tag was decent, then according to pricetracker, price has gone to as low as $60 before. I would prefer owning a Dremel too for making more precise cuts and putting finishing touches to whichever projects I may be working on.

What wait 5 months and have to wake up early to MAYBE get a great deal? I'd just buy it now and enjoy it.

Plus I don't think the black Friday deal comes with the free bonus tool? So you're not saving much by waiting -- what $21? $150 - $129 value of the bonus tool.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, was the Milwaukee Combo Kit excluded from the offer last year? Or was the drill and driver being sold separately in which, by purchasing the drill, the driver was $150 off?

Almost three months away :)
The sale does generally run through January 31 of the following year. And the unsold stock tends to get a price drop overtime. However, we're talking about one of the popular items here. Currently, the kit retails for $349 at Home Depot. Last Black Friday sale price was $399.

Long Island,
I'm pretty sure the same sale is going on where you are. :)
I haven't come across any mentioning of the deal on deal sites like Slickdeals. I'll take a picture the next time I'm at Home Depot. Sale is running through the end of next month (September)

I see contractors taking advantage of the offer whereas others are going after the Ryobi deal.

Where in NY are you?

To give a general idea of how the Home Depot holiday cordless combo deals work I've attached an ad scan (probably from 2015).

Last year I bought the 2897-22 M18 Fuel Combo Kit and the M18 blower bare tool. Subtotal prior to discount was $479 = $329 + tax after discount. You can also stack the 5% off for using you HD card for the 1st time.

Alot of GJ'ers were returning the bare tool and keeping the combo kit or vice versa so as only to acquire one of the items at a discounted price.

It's a 20V 3/8" Drive. I find it under-powering, and then again, I'm not using it everyday either. However, I plan to do a DIY renovation in some of the areas around the premises.

Is it the B&D 12v drill? I love mine.

I really need a Circular Saw too, probably would regret going cordless on this one though, however, I can always substitute that option with the Cordless Impact Wrench if I wait for a price drop on that one.

If I understand correctly, by purchasing the Fuel Combo Kit, the M18 blower was added and you received $150 off, right? That would bring it around the same price point as whats being offering right now, right? The only difference is the type of free tool being bundled.

In my experience there are almost always deals to be had on Milwaukee cordless tools. I only posted a little about the details of the HD holday deal to clarify how it worked. I'm not sure if it is a better deal than anything being offered now.

To the OP though, if you are unhappy with that Black & Decker drill you should definitely check out the Milwaukee M18 Fuel drill. I upgraded from the non-Fuel and non-brushless M18 that I had purchased about 3 years previous and both the 1/4" impact and drill are a world of difference. I was going to sell that old combo kit but decided to keep it for the small batteries and to have backups / loaners.

Thanks for the feedback, I was thinking about selling the B&D Drill, but your approach is practical; makes a good backup. The same goes for a corded Dewalt 3/8" drill I have laying around and sees only occasional use.

There are a lot of makita 18v drill sets on Amazon warehouse and eBay for real cheap. Plus,I've heard their new brushless impact wrench is as strong as the Dewalt and Milwaukee. Myself and the plumbers at my work use makita 18v tools. They're exceptionally good.

I'd rather pay a bit more now and skip dealing with the stupid people during the holiday season.

The deal is online too. Just search 2897-22 on homedepot.com

The deal is not reproducable online. The combo kit goes for $349 online too, but doesn't include an additional tool at no extra charge ($129 value)

Also the deal is not only for the 2897-22, its also applicable to the new kit which comes with the One-Key Feature ($499 --- Drill Only, Impact Driver Not Included)

For the free tool, You can choose from one of the Three Options ($129 value)
- M18 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless SAWZALL Reciprocating Saw (Tool-Only)
- M18 18-Volt Lithium-Ion 6-1/2 in. Cordless Circular Saw (Tool-Only)
- M18 18-Volt Lithium-Ion XC 3.0 Amp High Capacity Battery (Not 5.0)

By the way, is the One-Key feature even worth it? Any advantage for a non-contractor / non-professional?

Lol, lets be glad that young adults are joining the DIY club to progress further. We're at a crucial period here where young adults need to be encouraged and empowered to lead and not be discouraged. Your signature has always been a inspiration Strouty, much appreciated ;)

Five months? What calendar are you using?

Oh yeah, lol, that's how much I care about Black Friday. Yep only 3 months away.

If the OP has a project to do soon (I think he said he did), I'd definitely get the set now and enjoy the impact driver. It'll be a beast compared to that regular B&D drill.

Corded is cheaper and more powerful. Especially for a non-pro. Definitely go cordless on the impact driver and drill (and flashlights, lanterns), but for everything else (sawzall, circular saw) you're better off corded unless you already have corded saws and want the convenience of cordless.

I use my DeWalt 12V flashlight a lot. I have 12V and 18V DeWalt tools.

I am in the DeWalt system and not Milwaukee, but I guess with One Key you can customize the torque and speed settings of the tools.

Wouldn't interest me too much personally. The regular settings are fine for me.

Quick Update: The free battery is a regular XC not the XC 5.0

I can probably take advantage of the Home Depot Offer with the Circular Saw and return the saw to make the kit price lower. Then I'd have to search for a quality corded circular saw.

Whats the refresh cycle on Milwaukee Cordless tool products? Is it once every three years?

Found it

Strange how its only available as a ship option, and not in-store pickup. I'd rather pick up in person to at least know what I'm getting. Good thing there is plenty of stock available.

The cordless saw is not Brushless, and as a bare tool, it costs ~$90 over at CPO. Its giving me second thoughts over the Home Depot deal.

The prices on the 2763 Cordless Impact Wrench keep fluctuating. Probably better to save up 'till Black Friday on the 2763 Bare tool, right?

I've been using the HF Electric Impact Wrench and can definitely consider an upgrade. I'd like to use the 2763 now itself, but I still have to take advantage of the current deal.

The one I'm waiting on is the 3/8" Fuel Impact Wrench with two 5.0Ah batteries and a FREE 5.0Ah battery...

Model # 2754-22-48-1850...

I believe it was "available online only", from HD for $299.00...$30.00 under current price and a FREE 5.0Ah battery...

I'm hoping it will return for Labor Day, or Black Friday...

I got that kit for $230 shipped from an online retailer in March on a special, $299 is only a good deal with a free 5.0 but I dont even value 5.0s for $70 and thats not even considering the tax.
