I started getting the banner ad at the top of the forum saying my membership is almost up. If I renew now when I still have a month left does it get tacked on to the end or do I lose a month? Should I wait till the day it expires?

As far as I know, only Ryan can answer that question. Hopefully, he can chime in with an answer for you.

From your control panel go to Miscellaneous and then Paid Subscriptions

Garage Journal Alliance subscriptions are good for 365 days.

To me that implies it would be tacked on to the end and you are not going to lose a month.

Which I'm sure is what the answer will be.

How many of you are actual Alliance paid users? $50 per year is expensive for a forum

Anybody with their username in red is an alliance member. I paid for it last year, but didn't renew. I spend a lot of time on this site, and don't mind helping pay some of the fees associated with running it. I'll likely pay again next year.

I think in the very first deal I was part of on here I saved like 300$. That's worth 50$ a year to help it stick around. Add to that I spend like 10 hours a day on here and it's a good value to me.

firworks , what kind of deal did you save money on? I was part of one of the first maxjax deals and have never been a member. Anyone else have examples of how this saves you cash ? And is it worthwhile for those outside of the states ?

I joined simply to help support the site. GJ is a tremendous resource IMHO.
To answer the OP, while I don't know for sure how things work here; on every other forum on which I am a paying member, the membership only renews on the expiration date. I would assume it is the same on GJ.

It's not that I got deals BECAUSE of being an alliance member. It's that I joined GJ and almost immediately saved a ton of money by finding that Sunex deal in the summer of 2015. From then on I've gotten a ton of value out of GJ from deals to help fixing things to general merriment. Thus, I'm happy to pay 50$ to support all that. It's 4$ a month. It costs me 3x that to eat one time in the stupid cafeteria at work.

One could also say that this site has cost us thousands and I think we should be paid on a yearly basis for spending all that money.
