Tool Reviews: New/Clean vs Used/Dirty

Thought I'd throw this question open to the GJ to get some feedback. When watching / looking for tool review videos and photos what do you think if the tools are dirty or clean or new or used?

For example, RTR tools are always pristine and clean and even come in their foam inserts or drawer inserts. I don't know if he's really good at cleaning tools, if he takes the video before using the tools or if he just has fifty of every tool ever made (this is my guess :)).

Some of the tool reviews you can tell that they don't even know anything about the tool and are maybe just looking at the box.

The reason I'm wondering is, I wanted to do a video soon on the Milwaukee Demolition work gloves. I really like them, I've been using them for a few months and they're holding up a lot better than the previous gloves I was using where I'd gone through several across a few months. However, they do look ratty. I started wondering if I should go buy another pair to make a video with or maybe even if people would actually prefer to see them beaten and still hanging in there.

What's your guys' take?

Also if anyone says wtf would I make a video about gloves, they've got a few features that I have shown people (who owned them) and they didn't even know about so I thought I'd talk about my experience with them and also show the features in case someone doesn't know about them.

Here is what I would do, I would use both new and used as far as the gloves go, just the fact that you like them and can prove that by buying a new pair to replace the worn out ones shows that you stand behind the review.

Woody 73 is right AVE does great tool reviews, mostly because he is not afraid to call **** **** unless the little one is around

Personally I take YouTube tool reviews with a grain of salt, you can tell that they got the tool for free and will always say what a great tool it is even if it has been proven to be craptastic. Give me a beat up old tool that has shown how well it has preformed over more than a day.

That is one of the reasons I do not do tool reviews, I do first impressions of new tools, if down the line a tool proves itself to be good or **** I will say it, but not before it really has done enough work to make a real decision either way.

It would be cool if you bought a new pair and took a picture of them every day when you finished working. Then put them together in a time lapse type video so we can see how they wore over the few month period. It would be even cooler if you then did another brand. Then another and another. So we can see each brand as it wears day to day. One may show wear in the palms while another may wear more in the finger tips. Of course, every day is a different repair/job and some will argue that one pair of gloves went through more abuse than the other depending on the job that week.

I bought a Milwaukee m18 1/2 impact after watching this review:

You can tell it has been used, hard.

Yup used hard, but I still can't stand to watch his reviews, he just may be the biggest kiss *** reviewer on the net.

I will admit if you can get past they way he kisses up to any company that sends him a tool he is entertaining and has interesting projects.

I haven't watched a lot of his reviews and I'm not subbed to his channel but I believe that review.

I treat tool reviews much in the same as car reviews. I'd rather hear from the technicians than the journalists.

A brand new pair of gloves that work great is unimpressive.
Six month old gloves is another story.

For me longevity is a crucial component in gloves.

i'd like to see 'em dirty and look at the wear patterns....even tho we all wear out stuff uniquely, its always good to see how things take abuse of whatever type...threads or palms or fingertips etc...gives also a sense of what the unit was best designed for/not.
