If it bothers you take them to a chrome shop and ask them to hit them on the 555(final polish). Most of it will magically vanish without really looking closely. It takes seconds. A lil white rouge on about an 8" wheel and "****".

The pictures didn't show new wrenches but they could've been a little more upfront. With that said if they function as they should clean them up best you can and put them to use. I think the value is still there given the price you paid. But if your not happy with them send them back after all they're going in your box not ours lol.

I don't think they were "Significantly Not as Described" and don't think it's right to hold them hostage and ask for ransom from the seller.

The pitting is mentioned in the ad and the images show the pitting once you click on them for full screen mode. Do you expect the seller to take a close up images of all 15 wrenches in the set?

If I were the seller I'd tell you to simply return them per his 14 day return policy.

Buying used stuff at 50% off and expecting "like New" condition is unreasonable IMHO and certainly not the norm.

Sorry, but I call them as I see them.

Thanks for all the opinions guys. The seller has been released from hostage status after paying a hefty ransom.

You should probably send 'em my way. Nothing really rusts out here. I noticed a spot I ground (grinder) thru the paint on my tractor for a ground (welding) at least 4 years ago. Still just shiny bare steel, stored outside but under a carport.

Just sayin'.....this might be the best way to keep 'em rust free, after you clean them up of course :D. The storage will be a minor inconvenience but I'm willing to deal w it for you Strouty!

Yes.

When I sell on eBay (even small items) I take as many pictures as I can, including close ups. They allow 12. Pictures are far better than a typed description in this case.

I would be willing to put clear nail polish on them... if you ship them to me...... I might even refund the postage if I could keep them after I clean them up... since you are not happy with them... true friends sacrifice on my part... for your peace of mind.

If the finish is all that important you could always take them to a chrome shop and have them stripped, buffed, and rechromed. Me? If I planned on using them (which it sounds like you are), I'd buff the rough spots with White, and clear lacquer them. Stops further rust, and the tools remain in usable shape.

There aren't very many chrome shops left and those that still provide the service would probably laugh at doing a set of wrenches.

If they did, I bet it would also cost a bundle and I'm not sure it would even be as good as the factory plating process.

Yes... but get the rust completely and totally off first. I have five bottles of nail polish... black, white, yellow, red, clear. ...

I'd ask for $ 100 back...

US New Jersey folks must think alike... All my impacts and wrenches wear nail polish :D it makes um Purdier... Remove the rust I'd say +1 on evaprorusting them, then clear polish and finally some car wax and you should be good for a long while....

I like to use red, white, and blue myself :D and $100 bucks sounds fair.

Now a big question I have had a set of these wrenches in my ebay watch list for the longest time... so is it worth the extra bucks for the Flank drive + set up to 3/4" as I don't work on anything Fancy or NEW...:dunno:

The flank drive plus open ends are essentially what every other wrench tries to match. To me, these are well worth it. Between the unique angles they offer (30 and 60) and the fact that they grip like you welded the wrench on, I am sold on them.

Looks like we have come to an agreement, so I will be messing with them a bit to try and keep them from rusting.

Soak in Evaporust to eliminate the rust.

Give a gentle scrub with a brass brush to clean the pits.

Spray with Fluid Film or Corrosion X for long lasting protection.

After reading this thread, I had to look and see if my angle wrenches were flank drive or standard. I have 3/8 to 1 1/2 non-flank drive, but I did find a problem.
For some unknown reason my 9/16 has turned into a MAC! If any of you guys have a set of Mac angle wrenches with an orphan Snapon 9/16 in the mix, I would trade.:p

You could try Paul's Chrome in my old home town Evans City, PA to at least get a quote. I've never dealt with them but other than pre-planning with the fire department, but they seem to do nice work.

Get a partial refund back if it bugs you that bad and just use the damn things.

You know what happens with impact sockets when they are old and used....the black finish wears off and you are basically left with a raw steel socket......the only thing that prevents them from rusting at that point is the oil from your hands/projects and dirt!
So just use them!

Hiball, I respect your opinion, but where did I ever give the impression I was holding the seller "hostage" or where I expected "like new condition"?

When I asked for a return and the seller responded by asking what I thought was fair to keep the deal alive I asked opinions here to get advice. I just can't understand how asking for a return and then being offered a discount makes me the bad guy?

No worries Strouty, My Agreement with Dave was more aimed towards some of the other comments in this thread. IMO the seller did a fair job of describing the items, and since the Seller was offering a 14 day refund it would be difficult for you to hold anyone hostage. I've never insinuated that you are a bad guy, my apologies if you took that impression from my comment. As long as You and Seller are Happy with the transaction, that's all that matters, Enjoy your wrenches.

I guess I got lucky when I bought my Snap On 4 ways on Ebay. I got a set from 3/8" to 1-5/16" for $300 shipped. They were in no way "mint" but they didn't have any pitting or rust on them. I also traded another retiring aircraft mechanic a telescope for the MAC version of the 4 ways 3/8" to 1-1/2". I bought the telescope for $200.
