Garage door opener hp?

I am going to be installing a 9x7 and a 16x7 garage door. I am not sure what size opener is needed. I'm sure a 1/2hp is big enough for the 9x7 but is that also big enough for the 16x7?

If the door is properly balanced and goes up and down smooth by hand then Yes.

If it doesn't do any of the above then it needs to be fixed before adding an opener. This goes for all doors.

The opener just takes the place of your arm raising and lowering the door. 1/2 horse is plenty.

This... I have 1/2 HP Craftsman openers on my 10x16 doors and they open just fine.
