New alternator, squeeky pulley

The alternator went out on our 05 Mariner. I got a new alternator, when I turn the pulley a squeeky noise comes out. Is this okay, or does it signal a defective alternator?

I read changing the alternator on the Mariner is a tough job and don't want to waste my time.

Is there a way to test an alternator before installing it? This might be a dumb question, but I cannot find an answer to it.

I got a rebuilt alternator from Advance recently and the bearing was chirping in less than 30 days. Took it back. Guy got the replacement rebuilt alternator out of the box. Spun the pulley and it was sounded worse than the one I was returning. He didn't have another rebuilt one so he gave me a brand new non-rebuilt alternator. He put the new rebuilt one that was making noise in the brand new one's box and put it back on the shelf.
