I made a new friend in this vise world. He is a good friend of Demoman and I plan on repairing several vises of his. Those repair pictures later. But he has shared many pictures of his massive collection that rivals va.grouseman's who has a excellent collection him self. Enjoy some of these vises like I do.

This year has been way too busy but I finally got some vise work done today. Through a second coat of paint on this Columbian and cleaned up the nose.
f8af7f10600476b2b2ee49919e2af361.jpg
Got this wilton painted and cooking in the oven.

Hoping to get these both done in the next week. Just have to make handles for both, and clean up the jaws in the Columbian. I wanted to get new jaws, but the ones I can buy don't fit.

I finally finished up my restoration and table mount for my Wilton #4 bullet.

From what I found its 4.5" jaws, #4, made in 19XX.

Kind of a mixed bag when I found it, seized dynamic jaw, lots of surface rust, but in decent shape. Unfortunately the PO welded the jaws on, but fortunately wasnt a great welder.

Some notable upgrades / changes I made:

_ replaced original bent handle with cold rolled 1144 9/16" diameter bar with shaft collars for stops and rubber o-rings for bump stops.

_ the horseshoe washer was missing, KMscott makes them but decided to make my own out of a grade 5 washer. Came out nice, functional, and with low clearance bolts is a nice upgrade.

_ original swivel locks were missing, replaced with some Kipp twist and lock handles and custom hardware. Big improvement over the oem imo.

_ copper jaws sourced from Ebay, sold as "bus bar", a great alternative and much cheaper then even the crappy steel replacements sold by Zoro.

After a electrolysis bath, some grinding and sanding, it got a fresh coat of Tung Oil to keep that raw steel look and also protect from the elements. Went through the entire assembly and greased all the appropriate pieces.

Pretty happy with the end result, should be around for a while. Oh, and this one will be getting used day in, day out.

Here are the before and after photos, enjoy.

KM, that right there is what I should have been doing all along.
Buying up the little ones.---I would have many vises and a lot of room to boot.---But NO, I have to go with bigger is better, and that's ok if you got a 2000 square ft. shop/storage building.---I didn't have much room before the addiction took hold of me.---Now they are just piled up everywhere.---I could show you the piles, but you would only see the outer crust.---One of these days, hopefully I'm going to have every man's dream, (a massive shop).---When I do, I'm going to take up about 3 full pages on here.

I like your repairs. I can not find 9/16 dia. 1144 but you did. Pretty unique lock downs and the clamp arm adjusts if I remember right. Using washers is the same as the original Wilton washers. Nice job. Busy night.

Man what a haul, gonna bend your tailgate Tops. Very nice collection, all from the same place? That will keep you busy for a while.

KMS Thanks, Yes it will keep me busy! These all came from an old couple that were pickers. The wife passed away a year or so and the hubby isn't in very good health . They have several buildings full of "stuff" that he's been clearing out. When he gets to my kind of "stuff" he gives me a call. I'm sure there will be another load or 3 in the future.

How about a 326 Starrett (6" jaws) sitting on a Hollands #18 (8" jaws) bolted to a rail road stand. Love those stands.

<a href="https://visejaws.smugmug.com/Andrews-Vises/i-8Qng9vc/A"><img src="https://photos.smugmug.com/Andrews-Vises/i-8Qng9vc/0/M/Andrew-4%20%284%29-M.jpg" alt=""></a>

The stand is great, as well an 8" Hollands is as big and as good as it gets. What I find impressive is how the 6" Starrett is NOT dwarfed by the Hollands. (Or is it the camera angle playing tricks?)

Youre right in the sense that the 6inch starrett does not get dwarfed by the 8 inch hollands. I have one of those 326's and its the biggest 6 inch vise I own. Weighs in at 225 lbs and IIRC its over 17 inches tall.

Got these two done this weekend. The blacksmith style vise i got on eBay for $29.00. Not worth a lot but i really think its cool. I need to fix the clamp but otherwise i like this one a great deal.

My first Gyro vise. A 3.5". Painted it with caliper paint. A very pretty vise. The jaws are so very clean.

Super sweet find. Morgan does not call their vises 150 or 160, etc now. It's a 38 which can be mounted stationary and you have the swivel base option making it a 138 in their catalog. If it were ordered you would get the 38 with a swivel base added to the box. I've been at the factory and asked that question actually. Here is a Morgan Milwaukee I just picked up labeled 50 but it's really a 150 in their catalog as another example.
