The head looks identical to another ratchet I have that is marked "D.J." "Stubby" on one side and just "Japan" on the other. I don't know who made the D.J. ratchet either.
Here is a picture of the inner workings. Just a plain old single pawl mechanism.

Round head ratchets are the most popular style ratchet in the world. Probably the easiest to make at that. I have SK look-a-likes from China, Taiwan and Japan. I'm pretty sure everyone has held one of those cheap round head ratchets with the plastic direction selector wheel and skinny, knurled handles...

I got this ratchet with in a box of tools I bought a few days ago. It seems like decent quality. Does anyone recognize the brand? This is the only markings on the ratchet.

That is clearly a Wright knockoff, not SK.

Old post not active but just wanted to spread the love for these little ratchets. If I could save 1 tool form my chest in a blazing fire It would be this little guy here. The form and fit are so natural it’s my go to ratchet for anything not requiring extra leverage. It short size makes it quick to spin and also acts a a natural barrier to over torque.I got this ratchet with in a box of tools I bought a few days ago. It seems like decent quality. Until recently I had believed that my DJ STUBBY wrench was just someone messing around with a letter press, but I found a second identical, one while cleaning out my grandparents tool chest.
Other than myself, you were the only other person I’ve encountered, that has one of these wrenches, or even knew about them. As you probably already noticed the manufacturer country impression is different from the unknown wrench so I will probably say not the same.

I have some "Japan KAL" ratchets. Got them together with some US tool lot I bought. The other ratchets are "Husky" USA, I think from the 60's. Supposed to be New Britain ratchets branded as Husky. When next to eachother, the Japanese seem like cheap knockoffs. And they probably were that in the 60's. The knurling on the Husky is way deeper. The shaft has a very **** long taper down from the head. The head is smaller and slimmer. The ratchet has I think 60 teeth which must've been crazy high tooth count in the 60's. The Japanese are very crude in comparison, but they do work fine.
