Literally. My go-to is my snappy screwdriver set but i have an extra c'man set that i split up between a couple spares in the toolbox and a couple in my cars' center console. For the longest time i put up with a weird smell everytime i opened the center console, even going as far as taking it out to scrub clean since it's easy to pop out. Finally figured out it was the screwdrivers (i think the handles mostly) after cleaning/rearranging inside the car. Never noticed it with the work set since clearly they're used in shop chemicals/oils anyway. That is all.

The Cellulose Acetate Butyrate handles off-gas a chemical (Butyric acid) which is the same as found in vomit. It's why I got rid of most of the clear-handled screwdrivers I inherited. Alternatively you can wash the handles with soap and water, rinse well, and then spray them with a sealant of some type.
Reading up on it, I learned that butyric acid is one of the chemicals that Hersheys uses to flavor their chocolate. WTF.

Holy cow. You can get some amazing German-made screwdrivers for a fraction of that cost. Is it really that much better?

Funny you mention,
I just transitioned to the Williams 8-Pc Screwdriver Set, and I'm a little concerned over the smell over those handles as well (in the long term),
The William's Screwdriver tips are okay, nothing outstanding TBH, the Philips have the anti-cam out feature though
If you're not bothered by aesthetics, go with the Weras and call it a day

I don't post much but I did get a laugh out of the bi-weekly Crapsman screwdrivers stink comment.
It is all too true. Back in my misspent y'ute, I thought CM was the huckleberry for a guy like me. Totally amateur wrench who only occasionally worked on his own stuff. And for the most part, it was true.
One thing I have never been impressed with is their screwdrivers. I don't know if Western Forge was the supplier or someone else but my old 'vomit' set must be twenty-five years old at least and the tips were never good. I had a few replaced under warranty and then quit trying. And yes, they still reek after two plus decades.
