I am planning a carport for my RV--I suppose that would make an RV-port.
The roof will be supported on posts, one wall will also attach to the gable wall of my garage giving some added lateral support.

Posts will be in the range of about 10'to 12' above the ground. Where can I get information on what size posts to use? I think 4X4 would be too small, and 6X6s are just expensive. I am leaning to using 4X6 posts, but would like to see a table or something that gives post sizes related to their height. They will be supporting only the roof.

Are we talking 4-5 posts here for the lean-to? I would personally step up to the 6x6s. Nothing like having a cheaply built structure fall over on your expensive toy in a storm.

I would go no less than 6x6's for the post. If you are going to build it to last, then you will have to spend the money. Cheapen out, and you will be redoing things in a few years.

There are plenty of pole building places around you, I would use the laminated posts that are available (usually 3 ply's of 2x6) with a better "treatment" for longer life. They will also not warp while drying and will be treated all the way through. If you cut a PT 6x6, you'll see the treatment only penetrte about half way.
