Figured I would make a thread about my garage, it is still ongoing but the exterior is all finished up. Any questions fire away, I had a friend do the construction since I am by no means a carpenter. My only real requirements were atleast 12.5' floor to truss in the middle of the floor, wood siding, reinforced section for hoist, full foundation and leave it bare on the inside so I can decide how I want to finish it.

Onto the pics

Thanks guys! I can't take credit for the Subaru unfortunately, its my aunts car im just looking after while she is in scotland. I can take ownership for the S4 avant and 4Runner though lol.

I should fill in some of the blanks as far as specs go for the garage.

Had to run my electrical underground to the house and then to the garage. Went with a 100A panel, also ran cat5 and coax.

The interior wall heights are 12' on the tall side and 10' on the low side and they sit on top of an 18" curb.

There is rebar and mesh reinforcement in the thicker section of the floor where the hoist will be going and its roughly 10" deep at that spot.

There is mesh throughout the floor which was lifted when the floor was poured so it didnt sit at the bottom of the cement. I didn't see the slip from the delivery driver but I told my contractor i wanted the fiber reinforced concrete.

There is rebar in the footing of course.

Went with 1" foam under the slab to try and limit heat loss during the winter and condensation in the summer.

I went with silverboard insulation on the exterior walls for the time being and will most likely do roxul down the road.

Im having the ceiling spray foamed in october to help with heat loss over the winter.

Plan is to install a heat pump next spring and depending how it keeps up i may put up a propane heater for the really cold days if i find its necessary.

Door is 18x8, wish i had gone 9' but im sure this will work out fine 99% of the time.

Floor is coated with a product called carboline, i'll be interested to see how it stands up. I had it installed by a company but looking back I sort of wish I had done it myself. I found their clean up prior to starting to coat the floor was ****, i have quite a bit of dirt/concrete bits in it which pissed me off but lesson learned.

Things im still unsure of are:

What to cover interior walls with

Lighting and receptacle locations

Work bench setup

What hoist to go with(likely going with an atlas 10k #)

Whether i should put a ceiling fan in to move air around

A bunch of other things I forget about.

Things im still unsure of are:

A - to cover interior walls with

B - lighting and receptacle locations

C - Work bench setup

D - What hoist to go with(likely going with an atlas 10k #)

E - Whether i should put a ceiling fan in to move air around

A: Plywood

B: Outlets at 4' off the ground, every 8 linear feet around the building. Except where your workbench will be, might want to have a few extra outlets there.
Lighting I would do in 3 zones. 1 - over the workbench. 2 - Just a few overheads to provide enough light for getting in/out. 3 - remaining overheads for when working and need bright light.

C: No suggestions here, still figuring out details on mine.

D: Good choice.

E: Yes.

I agree with what p_mori7 says. As for the work bench I would do one of the DIY jobs with a Harbor Freight box and a SS or butcher block top.

I am curious. This is the first time I have seen insulation board installed on top of Tyvex. Is that how it is done in your part of the world?

To be honest im not sure, it was a last minute decision to put that insulation on so they may not have done it if it was in the plans from the beginning.
