Thanks CW, I'm well aware about the neg rake for saws like these, been using sliding miter saws for years which are less scary but exhibit some of the same characteristics. Anyway its got to be safer than our diesel table saw with the 2' blade.

No worries, I have a 14" RAS and it does have quite the bite .... I thought you most probably knew about rake but mentioned just in case.

My great grandfather lost an arm on a tractor driven 2' saw, you certainly need your wits about you with a 2' blade and diesel power!

So I did pretty well today! well enough to need two posts for pics!

First score was at a block sale - a boxed set of mostly PowrKraft sockets, and the ratchet. The extensions and the 1/2 are not PK. $2

at another place at the same lock sale I got a number of things: The Bushnel 8X30 lightweight binoculars above (I really like this style with individual focusing eyepieces), and the Indestro puller (I had to toss the box and padding and clean the puller immediately as I found mouse dropping and the rust is probably from mouse pee...) and the new box of Plumbers tape (in the box)

And from that same guy, a Mountain sleeping bag - M49 feather filled all the above and the bag for $12: It came with the outer water resistant shell, and the bag that goes over it rolled.

The other place I did well as was an Estate sale: $22 bucks all:

A couple of brownie pans:

Vintage Gun cleaning - the bag is for the brass Marbles, 22-.25 cal rifle rod, two other rods, including the wood shotgun rod, 2 boxes of vintage patches, Winchester "Super X" .22 box with 5 rounds stil in it, and a box for a S&W K-22 revolver! too bad one end is damaged, it would be worth something!

Two Ball Peen hammers one with a skinny Proto handle, some bevel gears for some future need/project, CO2 cartidgees - there were 10 of those, and a couple of aluminum legs that may find use on the camp trailer project. The old ball hitch I got to get the ball section: I've already dismantled it and used the ball inside the trailer project hitch coupler, so when I locked that closed, its an anti-theft device... Now they cant even drop it on a pin and chain it down...

A Brown & Sharp 2" mic in a box for a B&S depth mic... and a Collins "red Seal" Hewing hatchet (my favorite style) with a 4-3/8" blade. The handle is badly cracked, but I'll put about a 30" axe handle on it and it will go in the new camp trailer permanently.

Drive tools: SH - two extensions, the 1/2 drive ratchet and breaker (with the square inlet in the handle so the breaker can also be an extension.), A Cleco Pneumatic Torque wrench. that head looks like a ratcheting head - its not. Mac extensions, and Apex bit holders.

Wrenches: a set of Plvmb DBE's, and one DOE, a partial set of Thorsen Metric combos, a small pair of hoes cutters, a small pair of Crescent wire forming pliers and an unknown DBE. I suspect either Blue point or Hinsdale, I need to look at what's left of the markings closely...

Today was a successful day in my book. I did 3 separate deals and still managed to go shopping with my girl and take her out somewhere nice. I'll let you be the judge of what deal was best.

1. Snap on triple bay Classic 96, like new, came with 1/2 snap on nicad impact, 14.4v flashlight, and a Lenovo laptop. Paid $1100 for all.

2. 1960? Lincoln Sa200 red/blue face welder. Non running, motor spins over, hopefully just needs freshened up. This one has the copper coils and is sought after by pipeliners. $500

3. Last and maybe least..... 2001 Saturn 4 door.... Radiator has a small leak. 179k automatic, AC blows cold, everything else good. Wasn't planning on stopping by for this one but it was local on the way home from our date.... Paid $300 and drove off with it. Runs great.

Here is a Snap-on KRA-2055 top box I picked up today for $100. Its as good as new and will be handy for my basement box. This box will replace a Craftsman box that was much too shallow to fit many long tools.

Interestingly enough this was found on Facebook which seems to be gaining a lot of traction for listing goods in place of Craigslist.

Went to about a dozen garagesales today found absolutely NADA... but my wonderful wife found THREE wrenches to add to my Barcalo-Buffalo-Art-Deco collection - for 50cents apiece!!

Waggoner, those Saturns are actually great little cars. I've got a 2000 that looks just like yours but silver. My wife bought it in '03 and it's still humming right along with 158k on the clock. They're known to use oil, so change it often and check at every fuel stop. The automatic transmissions sometimes have issues with the valve body and input shaft nut (the infamous "reverse slam") but it's an easy fix. I've also had to put in 2 intake manifold gaskets. Other than these minor issues, mine has been rock solid.

Hit up an estate sale I wasn't planning on going to. Pictures looked like mostly stuff I wasn't interested in (lots of kitsch and sewing supplies). But figured I was out so why not? Glad I did.
Reed 314 vise. Well loved but in pretty good shape still. Nice little tool box, B & D Gripmate clamp, and a couple of SK sockets and a Williams. $45

Almost a bust this morning.

Picked up the SK sockets for $10 and gave the same guy $5 for the Realistic 8 track player. I think the 8 track player might make a nice display piece in my truck.

My main boombox is an 8 track/cassette player. John Mellencamp 8 track at the flea market never gets old!

Ran out to a nearby estate sale yesterday morning. I couldn't stay long because my BIL and I had tickets to the UMASS vs Boston College game all the way down at Gillette Stadium at noon. (miserable game, looney toons playbook by both teams)

The prices at the sale were high and there was little in the way of negotiating. Other than an interesting little 1100w generator with a missing filter assembly that I passed on, there wasn't much to bother with. There were a few tool guys pawing through the dross in the basement so I went out and took a second look in the garage. Found a small Craftman box hiding behind the garage door and grabbed it.

I still haven't had a chance to inventory the tools in it. I'll post the list later when I get have a chance to go through it. Most isn't Crafsman.

Thanks! No idea. I honestly didn't know it was a swivel jaw in the first place. Thought it might be something like that but wasn't sure. I'm not familiar with them (obviously) so figured I'd buy first and ask questions later.

edit. Been playing around with it for awhile and the pin does seem to be stuck. Sprayed it down with penetrating fluid and will let it sit for a bit maybe lightly tap it with a ball pein every once in awhile it should work free. The jaw itself is free so as soon as I can get the pin moving it should be good to go.

Got this stuff for 20$ at one Yard Sale yesterday morning. Elderly Lady and her Daughter selling Husband/Father's tools. Prices were all based on the internet (so too high) left a few Husky breaker bars and Craftsman ratchets behind, but I couldn't be bothered for the price and/or condition.


- 4 Fuller Golden Grip screwdrivers. All of 'em are doubles for me but at .25$ each were the most reasonably priced things there, took the "good" stuff out of the box.
- 1 Crafstman Robertson #1, also a double oops
- 4 Crafstman Canada nut drivers, look brand new.
- Crafstman -V- 1/4" ratchet
- Snap-on 13/16 x 7/8 DOE, my first of that style Snap-on tool
- Crafstman router bit set, complete with original price tag (19.99$)
- Coes Monkey Wrench, not the best of shape but I just couldn't leave it behind. Quick research shows it from between 1881-1928, cool!

Not sure i understand what you mean, but i admit i dont know much about the big tire companies. It seemed odd to me for BFG to give away a promo ice pick, but hey...

Maybe the irony is that ice picks are a favored tool for sabotaging tires, and ice picks are associated with cocktails, which can also have an adverse effect on controlling an automobile?

Picked up a few items for a few bucks this morning at the flea. This short breaker-bar / Tee-handle (two dimples on the shaft allow two positions) has no information stamped anywhere. Anyone know the manufacturer? My first guess is Duro/Indestro, just because they produced so many things with no branding, and definitely produced a lot of hex-drive sockets.

Today picked up this Starrett no. 236 angle/depth gage for $5. It looked rusty but it was cosmoline and wiped off with wd40. I think it may be new old stock.

I've started a collection of these tools. I keep finding them cheap.

Every time I try to do a detailed inventory, life keeps getting in the way. So here are the highlights.

Sear's multi meter (early 70's??) still works
8pc Vanadium Tool Co. Combo wrenches (the reason I grabbed the box)
Cman RHFT 3/8dr ratchet (marked with patent number)
5 lg. Camper's "safety pins "
Cman push button tape measure

They wanted $45 for the box. The guy doing the pricing seemed to think that the multi meter was a big ticket item (it's a $2 item at best), but didn't think much of the Vanadium wrenches, which I was really after (don't know why, just had to have them). I was only able to talk him down to $35 for the lot. I was trying for $20, but he wouldn't bite.

In the end, I was in a rush as well as jonesing for a hit after my self imposed restrictions, so I ponied up the money. I didn't overpay, but not my usual score.

Small but interesting haul today.

After cleanup.

The machinists’ clamp vise is an ATLAS TOOL CO. The flexible retrieval tool is unmarked. The alligator wrench is a WHITMAN & BARNES No. 2 BULLDOG. The offset brake bleeder wrench is a K-D No. 223 with a 3/8 and 5/16 hex openings.

I am most excited about the little bench vise (even has a little anvil on it)…

…and the manual bench grinder.

I really like it for a wartime 41-G-872, GRINDER, Bench, hand power, heavy duty, 6 inch wheel (Type A)!

It’s not exactly the same (different guide, different clamp, etc) as the one depicted in the figure in the April and July 1945 ORD 6 SNL G-27, but I am convinced it’s a spec-correct grinder and the correct vintage.

It’s unmarked, except for the paltry remains of the mfgrs’ label…

… and the initials on the wingnut: “GJS”.

If anyone has any ideas on the mfgr, please let me know.

Set of Craftsman -V- metric sockets with the holder

S-K Wayne 3/8 drive set missing the ratchet and maybe a socket or two. Does anyone know what I am missing from this set besides the ratchet?
