Looking for some basement flooring ideas

I like the interlocking tiles like Racedeck but I am looking for other options. I ran the thought of doing our whole basement in Racedeck (or similar) but she wants something that isn't too shop-like (diamond plate or circles etc)

I found that Racedeck sells carpet tiles but it is a bit pricey. 40 1'x1' tiles for about $270

I need a subfloor to avoid water seeping into the basement. The big box stores all sell wood subfloor with rubber backing for drainage, its about $5/ 2'x2' tile plus the cost of the actual flooring.


Just looking for some cost-effective options.

What are you looking to do in the basement? I was thinking about getting some grey porch paint to dress up the grey concrete . I have visions of finishing and enclosing a wood shop area and wanted to dress it up a bit

My basement is rough finished. Concrete block wall and some partial walls built for a back room.

I have a huge sectional couch, pool table, big screen TV, bar and workout area.

The intention is a hangout area but I would like as little work as possible for cleanup.

The floor was covered in asphalt tile so the floor still has the old tar all over. I don't think that stripping it and recoating it would be cost effective.

Check out vinyl plank. Someone suggested it to me on this site and we are doing our basement now. Clicks together. Waterproof. And you can pull it out to dry if necessary.

You can buy carpet tiles from big box stores that just lay flat on the floor without gluing them down. Maybe that would be a viable option for you.

what you do for underlayment is get the dimple board the waterproofers use for foundations and roll that out and depending on what you put overtop will dictate if you need plywood overtop of it
