The dynamic is not fully closed on these but the screw goes into a hole on the back. A large washer around the screw at the back is all that retains the dynamic, it hits the guides in the static behind the nut. To split, you remove the qr plate screws, operate it and pull it out of the dynamic a couple inch, remove the washers, put the screw back in and screw the plate back on, then you can operate the QR and slide the dynamic out easily. Getting back together is easy but you need the vice on its side really to get the QR bar in the nut slot. Mine is together but I didn't do that so the nut isn't pressed into the screw so it doesn't operate, but since it will have to come apart to get it on a bench or stand it doesn't matter.
