Need some help.

Have acquired a 7" grinder, electrically OK, but does not drive.
On disassembly the drive gear was loose and it stripped the teeth on itself and its mate.
I need to replace both. The drive gear is straight bored, and the driven has splines.
Need to find a supplier. Any help would be appreciated. By the way I am in Ontario, Newmarket to be exact.

You could find standard gears from Boston gear but you need to know pressure angle, diametrical pitch and tooth count. I am going to guess you don't have the metrology equipment to measure the old gears. Even if you did you would need a lathe and shaper to fit the bores to the shafts. My advise is to force yourself to toss the sucker and look for a new one.

Don't know about Newmarket, Ontario, but around here there are some tool repair places that will usually tell you (for free) if the tool is repairable, either supply or tell you where you can get the parts, and how much they would charge to fix it.

IMO, a grinder with stripped gears and no name plate should probably be put in the scrap pile. New grinders are really affordable!

Firebrick43 has the right of it you can call Boston Gear and they will walk you through what they need for measurements . I had better luck with sending them the gear as it has helical with a tapered bore etc . Price was not horrible but it was for a floor model drill press . So cost / benefit will be up to you. I talked to the application support people first http://www.bostongear.com/ as it was an Walker Turner so no chance at a new one from the maker :}

Thanks Cypher. I thought it might be a B&D when they still made good tools.
Now to find the gear set.
We don't seem to have any repair shops in Newmarket/Aurora anymore.

it is a B&D and I would venture to say the gears are still available.
those are tough old grinder and depending on the cost of the gears may be very well worth fixing
