not sure if I had posted these before, but your Carter post reminded me of 2 boxes I found a few months ago:

- red Carter box in great shape
- a bunch of the carb tools
- a green Carter box with some wear
.

Nice find, Paul. I have always wanted the red Carter box, but they are hard to find and expensive.

I dunno, I have wondered myself and thats what I came up with. So I tried googling [which wasn't available years ago when I came up with this theory] "carburator" and it corrects me to "carburetor".......... And if you expand the pic paulm12 posted it is "carburetor".
So once again ........ sigh ....

I have a older 70's Craftsman 10 drawer tool chest roller ball drawers.

The slides work well on all drawers but one. One drawer the secondary slides go past the small tabs and the drawer gets stuck. I think part of the tabs on the slide are slightly broken off or worn down so it slides past them while closing making it difficult to open and close without going off track completely.

I tried opening up the tabs and also squeezing the slide to make the gap smaller but not working.

Is there a common fix???...I don't want to remove the slides as they are riveted to the inside of the box but will if necessary

This is the first vintage stack i've purchased. It is in cosmetically ugly shape, but has solid bones. I found it on craigslist, brought it home for $200. The guy I purchased it from was the original owner, he said he bought the proto boxes in 1982.

It felt empty so I had to put some tools in it. This is the Matco middle box.

The Matco middle box looks just like the PowerKraft bottom box I have, which was made by Remline. Even the Orange tint on the paint. I have been told that these Remline boxes from the 80s were the first to use powder coated finishes.

I recently came across s Rolla-Bench. 1953 style. It was only the second one I had ever seen so I grabbed it. It's marked KRH-300 but it has the electrics so according to the catalog it makes it a KR-300B.
The owner had a sign painter paint his name on a drawer with additional pinstriping etc which is kinda neat - it had been covered with paint in the past but I used laquer thinner and removed it as carefully as I could
I will paint the box which means removing the handles which are riveted on, but I will leave the section with painted name alone.

Got my Rolla-box all cleaned up and into service. Cleaned off the lacquer primer and put some polish to the remaining paint. That old paint really shines up. Wish there was more of it.
I gotta move that little anvil, looks like I'm missing a wheel ....

I think the SteelCraft is a Pressteel made unit? 4 bearing rollers per drawer, right? pics of the slides/rollers?

Pressteel made some of the early Proto bottom rollers and some for Sears under Craftsman brand as well...
Yes, looks a lot like the bottom Craftsman I have, that the $40.00 red and gray one is going to sit on.
First thing I thought of when I saw it.

As I took photos of my Craftsman box yesterday, I was waiting anxiously for a return email from a CL seller. The ad simply stated "craftsman tool box with tools. $100 firm"

This was the photo:

A bit ambiguous, but I knew in my gut that I needed to check it out.

I don't have any pix of the tools yet (1960s Craftsman DBE & DOE sets, 1/4" & 3/8 RHFT ratchets and sockets in original plastic Crown-top boxes, and much more ...) but I just photographed the bottom roller with the top box I photographed yesterday.

The handles are different, so I'm guessing they were made by different manufacturers?

I'm pretty excited. This is my second set of Heritage-era boxes.

Brian
Brian, that bottom one is just like the bottom one I gave $40.00 for it and the compressor.
The silver and gray one I got with the assorted tools for $40.00, will set on that bottom roller.

Probably not a tool box but it will serve the purpose just fine, my wife knew i was getting serious about the shop and that i have a thing for vintage metal picked this up for me.

The very next day i picked this up, again not exactly a tool box but it will make a fine bench with a new top. i imagine it was a machine base at some point, theres no identification on it.

I moved the shelf up for storage under the top i have yet to build, it along with the inner rusty bits will get a new coat of hammertone but the outside will be cleaned up and will wear the patina proud.

Thank you, and I apologise for the over sized pics I did get posted. Between my computer being dog slow after W10 updated and my new phone being a near total mystery so far this has been more difficult than it usually is.

Does anybody know what color and brand of spray paint will closely match the red and gray of the earlier Craftsman boxes in post 6310?

Hi all, have any of you ever heard of Roberts Consolidated Industries? I have the chance to buy one of their old tool boxes and would like to hear what you think of them. Thanks in advance

How would I restore one of the rectangular Snap On badges from the '70s? Mine is the rectangle with the black background and the underlined Snap On logo. The black background has flaked in a couple places, and the logo is pot-metal gray instead of silver.

is the grey gunge? will the chrome clean up? If so, then once that is done, you can jut paint the background with new gloss black...
