Just wondering if Matco impacts are the same as Sunex? Are they made to better tolerances or any differences?

No they are not the same. They don't even look the same. Also matco has 2 lines of impact sockets. Which one are you trying to compare to sunex? But neither one are the same. I know someone on here posted they are but he is wrong

Like Mercury said , they have two lines of impact sockets. They have U.S.A made high quality impact sockets, some of my favorites. Another line called ADV , Taiwanese produced good stuff. Similar in look and feel to Sunex. They are not the same , if thinking about the ADV line I would say skip it and go Sunex.

Can you all give me some examples of their U.S. line because thumbing through their catalog it seems mostly ADV series.

ADV sockets are sunex rebrands. Part numbers end with a V. In the e-catalogue they have their own large section after the 1/2 drive stuff.

Their main line would be sets that end in TA, TB, or R which are also dual marked with large stamped numbers and etched ones. Use to be USA, not sure about the last few years. They've had their Matco (non-sub brand) impacts made in Taiwan in the past.

the sets that the part numbers that end in ta used to be made in the USA, I'm not sure if they still are. The part numbers that end in v or av are the Taiwan sockets

Sunex are also dual marked, I just got a set of 3/8" and all of them are dual marked.

Adv are not sunex rebrands. My 3/8 sunex are completely flat on the bottom and the few adv 3/8 I have are not. They are recessed or bevelled in for the impact drive

This answer is too generic. Its legalese and doesn't say anything specific about doing a particular brand. He just says yes the do some stuff.

Not trying to be nitpicky but you would want more evidence than this to go on, IMHO.

I honestly don't care if they are I was just posting more info on the subject for the op

My 1/2 are adv & my 3/8 are sunex. They're very different & I highly doubt the same manufacturer. Gearwrench making them makes more sense with both being apex. I do have one non adv I bought to replace one I lost. It is nicer but worth twice as much...? I'm happy with both brands & would go for the best deal.

PTP and Sunex are one in the same.

Originally ADV were GP sockets so if yours are older that's the difference. They've been identical to Sunex for 3-4 years at least.

The falling out was with GP back in 2010. I assure you relations with Sunex/PTP are very strong. They almost universally make all their pneumatic and cordless tools as well as much of the Advance line.

understood... still not sunex. sunex is another line made by ptp different styling and a different tool. matco used to sell much more sunex, however now that theyre sourced straight from ptp they do not push sunex
