Oh wow I like the tile and the tin on the lower parts of the walls!

Thank you. I am pretty happy with how it's coming together. It's going to need a mini split a/c unit. I just washed my mustang and I'm sitting here sweating...in October...in Michigan. Always something to improve on. [emoji39]

Met with an Amish cabinet maker today. I'm trying to pick out a cabinet wood for the garage. I'm leaning to a walnut cabinet with a natural finish that would compliment but not match the trim already in the garage. If I go with a dark cabinet, I don't know what I'd put on for a counter top. I really like a dark butcher block. But that would be too much of the same. The first is too rustic. The second, cherry, is too red. The third is a full slab of hickory that he thinks would look great as a top. The fourth is the walnut that I like so far. 111ccc3c3d54fb5f09e9a947c92952f8.jpgfe43b4841d7b96ab015376a461189d7d.jpgeaba07c1ff448dd697399c0b2f4726f5.jpg833602cdb2ae2154c90bb4b139243186.jpg

Very nice setup!
But help me out..is there a reason, outside of the cool factor, for the tile in a garage?
I hope you don't take the question as me knocking the idea, far from it in fact...more curious.

Not offended at all. I wanted something that looked clean for when we entertained in the garage, which is part of the purpose for the space. I really tossed around a lot of ideas, but, when I saw tile and heard about the durability of it and it's comparable (in some cases) price to epoxy, I was sold. I just like the look of tile better than epoxy. Also, I've said it before, I just don't trust something poured from a can for decades of durability.

Having storage cabinets built and work bench cabinets built. Since the garage sees double duty mild work and more entertainment I'm using cherry wood. I'll have some granite for the entertainment island and stainless steel on the workbench top.

Closet being built. I'll post pics when I'm home tonight. Wires for tv were run in the wall. Everything is a huge mess for now. It will be nice when it's done!

Sorry for the delay. Busy work season. Here's a pic of the garage closet. fa1d0df1b5684eab82499ea6c2322be2.jpg3fbcc3b6a27a7d216feea5639141e7eb.jpg

Garage is a war zone right now. I look forward to finishing the wiring so stuff can be put back in cabinets. I need a good under cabinet led light with a separate switch. Any ideas?

Trying to find an air supply system to run about 30 feet with two connections. This compressor needs a new drain set up as well. For what I do this will be fine.

That floor is gorgeous!

Thanks! It's holding up well to the slop melting off my truck and the oil leak it developed. Cleanup is simple. Ill power wash the grout in the spring. I've dropped a number of hand tools on it and drug carbide across with no ill effects.

Great entertainers garage! Everything is looking killer. I really like what you did with the ledge. Can you include a close up and details on how you did it?

The ledge is pre bent galvanized roll tin. It slides under the drywall. Only tacked down where the corners were wrapped. The bare concrete block was painted and the block to tile void or gap was caulked with solar seal. I really like the results. The reflection is a pleasant surprise. One less thing to deal with.

How will the tile hold up to jacking up a car or using jackstands? I would love to tile my floor but would be concerned about working on cars in my garage afterwards.

Lots of threads on this. My tile is heavy duty for wet, snowy, icy,hot and cold indoor or outdoor purposes. The tile itself is more dense than the concrete floor it's laid on. The trick is to have no voids in the thin set. A void may allow an opportunity for the tile to crack or break. No void should leave you with a much better surface than concrete alone. Don't take my word. Read up on here. Check out Cave Creek Rays build, the 12 gauge garage and many more talented dyi and pros sharing their projects for more on tile floor durability and install techniques. I love the look and the fact that if I do break a tile, I can just replace that one tile and the floor will look like new again. Not possible with epoxy. I've accidentally drug sharp carbides from my snowmobiles across my new tile with no marks. Tough stuff. I don't think others have issues with jacks and jack stands. Go for it!

I trimmed out the closet and ordered some barn door hardware on eBay tonight. I need to measure and order my stainless steel top and my granite for the other sink cabinets. 02e84baf5cbd9cdc0b0770815956689f.jpg

Next project is the cottage garage.
This space will be for simple work projects, snowmobile and atv maintenance, etc. definitely not looking to have it as polished as the home garage. I will likely heat it with a simple ventless 30k btu wall heater.
White liner steel panels went up on the ceiling today. Will be re-wiring this coming weekend and putting up simple led light fixtures. Then, insulation and some sort of wall treatment that can stand up to some abuse. Advise for this would be appreciated. I’d like it to be somewhat attractive. Probably put the galvanized steel around the bottom again. df0cb781b7a721dbdcc471cdbba51cf1.jpg552d2692b5bd395f860d1f2df2b9d7cb.jpgdbc0da0bc7bfb7cf2ee110238654bd1a.jpgb0930a966929630e7ad2d9e4017fec58.jpg

Saw this at Lowe’s. Considered using it on the horizontal. One review ripped down each board from the 4x8 sheet and said it gave the product a much more expensive look. I really do like the barn wood look and like that idea. May use this for some or all of it. We’ll see. Probably be a spring time project. 80e180805bd3c1b28d5e353402a65ca5.jpgbe50af5dbf0a763dadfc5d27f39b2c1f.jpg.

This will be my drawer cabinet. It is a solid wood dresser that fell off the truck. There are some scars, but some light sanding and a really close stain match will make a beautiful addition to my garage storage. Could almost be worthy of use in a bedroom again, Lol. I added casters to the bottom to roll it around if needed. b8cdd906814721790eed428ec7b358db.jpg
I’ll take this work bench up also. 7d0fb1bb9c19efe37ef7981167d9e62a.jpg

I was able to finish the wiring and hang an electric heater in the cottage garage with the help of my electrician. It’s a Dr. Heater 10,000 watt unit. Works great! I could notice a difference after just 10 minutes and in an hour the 25x36 garage was comfortable and the ice on the floor was able to be scraped up. Should be great when I finish the insulation. Very happy. a84e466324a3d69598618edfc40b95d9.jpgdd1ddb4ca5c1a205f83329caeaea7d84.jpgc94aa5b8c3da24dfae001175791d22ec.jpg95d2ed4b9964f3a34b72d6ffa1d641b9.jpgb218c5ca29e03fbd5f03e14704548908.jpg

Your garage is better than my apartment

Lol, thanks. It did get a little out of control. I still work in it though. Those nice finishes are very durable and everything cleans up easily and looks great. Super happy. The cottage garage will be great when done too, just going to leave the floor bare due to the snowmobile carbides.

Wow.. that Stainless topper looks great!! Can I ask how much that topper cost ? I want to build a custom work bench with a SS topper as well but cant find anywhere where it doesn't cost an arm and leg.

I have a friend with a fabrication company. Materials were about 400 or so. Had to be two pieces because his metal break wasn’t long enough to bend it in one piece. Sits on partical board.

Hung some insulation yesterday at the cottage. So much snow against the building that I could see the moisture was wicking through the t-111 siding. Decided to be sure it was dried up before finishing the bottom of each stud bay. Two out of four walls are complete. 4f53a7809149fd7af12642dee539c994.jpg

Also have a pile of pre finished knotty pine for the walls. 080513ac006aa14bae2e6e9ff89c5ea5.jpg.

The snow is slowly melting and the t111 dried up nicely. I finished insulation last weekend and started putting up tin. I created walls for a walk in closet. It cleans up the space around the chimney and built in shelves. I made it to be open at the bottom and about a foot from the ceiling.

I finished the tin installation and got started putting up the wood. Yard work got me sidetracked. So, didn’t get as much done as I hoped. I’m loving the way the weathered knotty pine is turning out. 77bf1e784ad7e186fa8346aa03a7a8a2.jpg2c61cbb7c9a2c391b9baa0227b2626d7.jpg2e3c8567192b203785aafee125ea5f47.jpg4883ff3bc4dc4d125e4c7e625d661e08.jpg

I have most of the wood up. Just waiting for an extra hand to tackle the garage door wall. I’ll need to basically remove the door rails and release the tension on the spring so I can put the pine boards up behind the garage door brackets. I have a plan in my mind. Hoping it all goes as well as expected. When that’s done I’ll trim out the windows and doors. 6455b9e300db436a7c386edc55358b95.jpg3d3e4749d5ef9db68ff8fa31a785779f.jpg8523791d63369f7dd7ccd7efe9f69ec1.jpgeaf9173e23dc037fd7f89c69f7f42593.jpg0b4b37a0ca6d4502eafe2c53eea13822.jpga18ded0201a583529268fe6c63944037.jpg

Let me know what you think of the progress. Tips on how to remove spring tension are appreciated too.
