Single or 3 speed pump?

Looking for some education from you folks. What determines if or when you need a 3 speed circulating pump for a radiant floor heat system? I have 1800' single zone electric boiler. Thanks.

Three speeds just gives you options for fine-tuning, like a five speed transmission.

Pump size is determined mainly by PEX tube diameter and maximum length followed by heat transfer fluid and heat loads.

Thanks Badger. So one would manually select a speed or is the speed controlled by an input signal? Thanks again.

In residential work a fixed speed is usually sufficient. Remember these small wet-rotor circulators will only burn $25.00/year...
