Try abf freight. they have a uload it moving service. they charge by the cubic foot not by weight. they will drop an empty trailer at your house, give you a couple of days then pick it up and deliver to your new place. give them a call.

GT: i've used Fastenal a lot for 200-600 pound shipments and i think as your weight goes up they are even more competitive. if you can put your box on a pallet and wave any damage to the box otherwise you'd have to crate it. if you don't own a job box just build a couple stout crates. of course you'll need fastenal stores or hubs (warehouse) to drop off and pick up at.

for that drive i might even consider taking a second trip and taking all the tools and maybe a few other items myself, but your call on that.

Maybe think about Packrat.

Its basically the same thing as the PODS except it doesn't get horrible reviews.

I am in the process of moving, though its just across town.

I called them and set it up and they dropped a metal 8x16" container two days later, they also have 8x12" available.

I want to say the driver told me they could carry something like 8500 lbs, the container (16") is about 2000, so about 6500 lbs.

So even the smaller one would be plenty for your tools, could even take the boxes if you wanted, and probably still have plenty of space left over. But I'm guessing you could manage to find enough to fill it anyway.

I carefully boxed everything befor I left and gave my brother strict instructions to mail my stuff usps I wrote values on each box to insure for

When I made it out here I gleefully checked the tracking numbers only to see shipping DELAY when I finally got my stuff almost a month later it was a mixture of women's clothes and construction debris no tools

My brother didn't insure anything as instructed and pocketed the extra money I had given him for that

Lost all my tools in one fell swoop

So I would say not usps

The blazer will be towing the rest of my house in a uhaul it has become a weight issue not a space issue.

Rent a box truck for everything and a car trailer for the Blazer. It'll be cheaper than insuring and shipping tools and renting an enclosed trailer.

It may be cheaper to drive the Blazer than tow it on a car trailer, depends if you have a driver available. The extra trailer behind one of those box trucks, especially if they are a big block engine, will significantly cut into fuel economy.

If you go with Penske, it'll be a diesel. Pulling a car trailer with a box truck means that there's not a problem with air resistance. The truck shields the trailer.

if i go with one of the large penske trucks i will put the blazer in the back of the truck i work for a towing company been there done that

I moved about 1000 miles with a 24ft diesel Ryder truck in advance of my wife and infant son. In the truck was my 1971 Toyota FJ-40, a plywood wall and everything I needed for a 1 bedroom apartment. Behind the truck I towed my car on a rented flat tow car trailer.

It was slow through the Siskiyous but otherwise was a piece of cake. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
