Hose whips, where do you guys get them?

I always need an assortment of 1/4" through 3/4" whips, 1'-6' long.

But they are usually just as much if not more then the 50' hose packages you buy at the store...

Am I missing something here? Does anyone make their own, or can you get them made for less? HF sells the 3/8" whips for around $7 which is the price I am looking for.

Linear foot prices seem to be right, but I am not sure what type of fitting to use, or where to get one that swivels so I can use it correctly with a npt thread on both ends.

I got mine from a local air compressor repair shop. Told them what I wanted and they made it while I waited (a whole 5 minutes!). If I remember 1/2 line w/ swivel was about $10.

I use a Matco whip that works great. I also have a Goodyear hose with swivel end that works well. Before the Matco hose I tried one from HF. It leaked from the swivel joint the second I put air to it. Never again have I even considered buying anything pneumatic from them, nor will I...

Menards sells flexzilla whips, can catch them on sale. I bought 3 of the 8 foot whips with swivels awhile back for $8 each.

I dont see the 8 footers on there website but they do show the 2 foot and 6 footers.

I have had the best the best luck out of Milton hoses and the worst by far is Amflo. Amflo moved production to china and the swivel fitting is impossible to keep from leaking and is a screw together design and have slowly just replaced them. Milton has been zero trouble.

I've been buying my hose whips from Mcmaster-Carr. They have a large selection of styles and all the whips I've bought have been top notch quality. They probably don't have the best prices, though.

I've bought Goodyear whips from Amazon before.I have several of the yellow Goodyear whips now.I have had very good luck with them,no dry rot.

gungatim - I get them at the local Cummins Hydraulics dealer here in town. I've bought them for air hoses from 3/8' up to 3/4" and they work great. They're really simple to install and they look good when done. http://www.cumminshydraulics.com/

My guess is that places like McMaster, Grainger, etc. also sell them.

I believe they are just push on to a hose of the proper diameter. the yellow ring keeps the cut end of the hose from chaffing and coming loose and just gives a nice finished look. The ones I had given to me are not swivels, If I knew the source I'd check and see if they have swivels, I bet they do.

I've reused mine several times by cutting off the old hose (doesn't just "pull" off easily, you have to carefully cut it without cutting into the brass) and adding a fresh piece. I used one on my compressor as the flexible ship, and one on a sandblaster I built from an air tank.

Parker 801 hose and the necessary fittings, swivels are available. Best air hose by far.

GarageGuy89 - The ones I use do not swivel. They may be available but I'm not sure. The yellow plastic nicely covers the cut end of the hose but I'm not sure if it has a function ... other than making it look good.

I make mine also. You can make a bunch cheaply by cutting up an existing hose, and getting the size you want. I have used ferrules from both PAL and Lee Valley. That crimper came from PAL.

Mine do not swivel and that's OK with me....not needed.

For two stationary objects, screw the fittings in first, cut the hose, slide the clamps over it, then put the hose on and clamp it down.

They don't leak at all when sized correctly.
