I am not sure on the value of that particular top.

I have lots of work surfaces from Maple to Formica to Plywood. What benefit would the stainless sheet provide you over the plywood? I am a hobbyist woodworker and would get very little benefit from a top like that. Welders may chime in on the need/value of a metal top.

It wouldn't be much good for metal work at that thickness and being stainless. I was mainly just looking at it as a nice looking general purpose top if the price is right. Not being wood, oil and solvents won't soak in to it, which is a plus. I am in the middle of a decent sized shelf and workbench build trying to decide what top to use and saw this one on Craigslist.

I'd already be picking that up, offer him $75 and load it in your truck.

It is 3 hours a way so not quite that easy, haha. I have a friend that lives I that town though, so I am thinking offer my friend $100 flat for it. What he pays for it is his business and he keeps the rest. I don't want to do it though if that is not a good price. I just don't know what the value of the top is.

16 ga Stainless makes a nice work surface but it will not hold up to hammering...

About $63.00 worth of Stainless there new. Add the bending/notching and I'd say you have a deal at $95.00 but if you can get it for $75.00 that you almost earn a "You ****" on GJ...$50.00 or less definitely gets you a "YOU ****".

Go get it!!! If I did own a Sheet metal Shop I would.

I'd say it's a fair deal. I spent about $165ish at a Sears outlet for something like that but with a heavy MDF core underneath the SS. Screwed that to the top of my main workbench about a year ago and I like it.

Shows scratches (don't care) and minor dents (oh well) but I don't do much heavy duty stuff on it. Have engine building work looming in my future and wanted something I could really get clean. And clean up nicely it does.

Well, it would fit the bill for my use. General repairs on small equipment, cars and other stuff, tinkering. Needs to be goo proof, cleans up with brake cleaner, I don't care about scratches much (that SS top you're looking at can be brought back to life pretty easy if you're handy with a belt sander or flap wheels with aluminum oxide or silicone carbide abrasives. Don't use iron oxide.)
It may dent, I think I see some dent's in the picture. But if you can get it relatively cheap, I say go for it.

I redid the top on my bench with used school lab table black epoxy top. Heavy, but other than not being hammer proof, it's perfect for me.

So I decided to go ahead and buy the stainless top. Ended up paying $75 for a 3'x6' top with backsplash and rolled front edge. The lady selling it used it in a dark room, and it is reportedly in great condition. It has already gone through two of my friends on its way back to me. I will update once it arrives in town this weekend and I pick it up.

Picked up the top from my friend today. I feel $75 was appropriate. The top is in pretty good shape. Will post more pics once I have it mounted. Sorry about the crummy pic, my potato was acting up.
