I am looking at getting a box, but I am torn between this older SnapOn setup and this newer Mac MB 2480.. They are both around $750 and $800 but the Mac appears to be in better shape.

I have always read that SnapOn is the gold standard, but recently I have seen a lot of people saying the the lower end Mac boxes are just as good as the lower end SnapOn boxes...

What would you guys go for???

Which one has the most advantageous drawer depths for YOUR tools?

Is there a difference in area or volume between the boxes?

Aside from drawer depths, which are very different between the two boxes, I have a slight preference for a genuine three-bay Mac over a two-bay-plus-side-cab Snappy.

I am leaning towards the MAC 3 bay myself.. but a snap on box for the same price is tempting.. I like everything about the Mac better though.

That top box is not snap on. It looks like a harbor frieight. The bottom box on the other hand does looks like a snail on with mac badges. Personally, save your money on both.

That's not a snap on box.

And the mac box is the lower line, which is actually outsourced to Stanley Beach.. so on par with craftsman, husky etc.

So basically, I may as well just go get the Harbor Freight 44 new for $400?

I would agree with this. I looked at a similar two bay mac box and it was made from very light gauge construction. It also was not very deep.

I went to a pawn shop and found an entry level snap on box for 2k... played with the drawers a bit and checked it over.. then went to harbor freight and looked at the 44" box of theirs..

The HF 44 seems just as adequate to me as the SO box... I'm sure there are hidden subtleties that are of higher quality on the SO box, but for $400... I can't justify buying a 2k box to myself, much less my wife :dunno:

For the money, HF 44 box will suite alot of members in their home garage and for the money, it's a decent deal. . . as much as I hate to say it.

For a little bit of time and a small outlay of cash, you can easily change the look of a HF 44 box.
