I ordered a HF dust collector off eBay a few months back. I was skeptical due to the price but there was a couple of reviews that were left recently so I took a chance. I tracked it all the way to my house where it was requested for return the day of delivery.

I called the HF distribution center and was told they requested it returned due to fraudulent payment by the seller. I left bad feedback as several others did the same day only to have eBay delete the feedbacks because we were refunded our money but then they deleted the sellers account a few days later. It's a scam for sure

Just like WWheeler I am done talking about it and Harbor Freight has been made aware of the situation. The ball is in their court. I think its pretty clear with the same pattern with sellers from all these random locations have no selling history and all of a sudden selling tons of HF equipment. The transactions are flagged for fraud by ebay based on their analysis. They are selling well below market value and even selling lower then what previously sold out at higher prices (they could sell these at $160 all day, why so low?). All the listings follow a similar pattern.

How's that?

I'll finish reading the rest of this thread in a little bit. I have to go out and jack my m1 abrams tank with my Daytona.

Now that looks absolutely nothing like the Daytona. It has yellow on it. That's about it

Daytona should be priced higher @ $485 (instead of $200) to pay the laborer in China better like how Snap-On does it, well at least I heard they pay their US workers (making tool boxes) well... sorta make sense right?

well there getting "smart" I "won" one through an auction,
and e Bay would not accept my payment through there credit card 6 months.no interest option.
I don't know if it would take the payment through Pay pal at all, using my checking account transfer of funds.
Im thinking probably best to just not pay it, and let it go. E bay said, they would not put a strike on to my account for non payment.
just waiting.
E bay will probably flag/ pull the auction, and send me the e mail like they sent to a bunch of you guys,
probably for the best.

I'm a little curious about this. Sure, I can see the fill plug through that crack, and no doubt I could get a screwdriver to it there, but I'm not sure I would trust that I could get it up and out of there on the magnetic tip of the screwdriver (and that's assuming I could tell it was made of a ferrous metal and not aluminum or plastic/rubber like so many others are these days) and not drop it where I couldn't get to it without having to remove the plate anyway, not to mention I'm not sure how I would be able to check the fill level is at the top of the piston while I've got it open, and then get the fill plug back down in there and tightened up.

Perhaps most important to me, I never start threading any fastener with a tool. I always, and I mean always, start threads by hand first. Perhaps your fingers are skinny and long enough to get down in there? Mine wouldn't even come close.

It just seems like a better call to remove the four 3mm Allen screws to get that plate out of the way.

Awesome! I really look forward to seeing what lurks inside these things and your opinion of them.

Except the SO version is imported as well... doubt the extra $ is going to workers.
I highly doubt it also, the difference in price is likely to be in the executives' pockets not in the blue collar workers. You know ... at least HF doesn't have to pull any tricks on their customers.

Nevertheless, SO makes great tools in USA.

Wow, at $100 would you say this is a no brainer? Fraudulent or questionable nature aside.

As I stated earlier, it takes more than a New color scheme and some advertising to impress me. The Jack has yet to prove itself in my eyes, The hydraulic design isn't New, they only took the long profitable route to get to the current production in which they "claim" premium seals. The biggest issue I will have is with the valve system, is it a Cartridge system? Seperated Valve system? All good questions that will soon be answered, The quality question will be answered 5-10 years down the road.

Ordered from s_sylsy_simqvty at Nov 1, 2016 6:58 PM PDT
Received shipping email at Nov 3, 2016 3:49 AM PDT

Ordered from janiendouthar-0 at Nov 1, 2016 3:38 PM PDT
Still no shipping email.

Okay, so just received 2 shipping emails from FedEx and both jacks have been picked up and will be here on Wed 11/09. Two separate tracking numbers and the timestamps on each are about 18 minutes apart. So it seems like other sellers besides sylsy are legit (using the term loosely) as well. But we'll see what arrives.

Also ordered the 12in miter saw, still hasn't shipped yet. We'll see...

I also just received a shipping notice email from FedEx that my package was accepted at their facility, with a delivery date of Tuesday, Nov, 8th. Keeping my fingers crossed. Glad WWheeler and Hiball got theirs.

I was honestly planning on taking mine apart at some point to check it out, but it would be great to see what Hiball has to say, as he's obviously the resident expert.

My guess, as to the longevity of the jack, would be that they could have possibly skimped on some of the processing of the components that would affect the life. Things like surface finish of the pistons/housings and if they didn't deburr features. Also, if they didn't flush the cavity after machining, leaving metal shavings in the oil would be pretty easy to ascertain and we could modify these things to increase life.

Probably, but unless you want to use your own credit card, I don't think PayPal will pay it.
Unless they will take the pay pal bank transfer payment.
If not, you're not backed by pay pal.
Did any one else try or was able to pay for a jack, yesterday or today with pay pal?

Okay so what seller on eBay would be legit to order from? (If they are not all sold out yet)

Probably one not selling it for $80. Not the ones using the same header, same stock photos, same description, has more than 10 available, multiple listings of the same item, or multiple listings of Harbor Freight items, if the account hasn't been used in years and all of a sudden is selling multiples, etc.

(not saying you wouldn't get a jack from any of them...but all sorts of shady stuff going on.)

Also a common theme seems to be a lack of any communication. So just message them and ask some questions if you are concerned. If you do not get a response then maybe that is something else to consider.

Just buy whichever is around $100 and pay with your CC thru PayPal (I personally use my bank account). Worst case if PayPal doesn't pay you back, you can call your bank and file a chargeback.

Yeah, see but Pay Pal wouldn't let me Pay for it.
I was trying to use my Pay Pal credit card.
I really didn't try to use bank transfer or my debit card,
cause it threw a flag in my mind.
also the seller not answering me threw a flag.
