It is the 6" turtle back model. There have been a lot of them posted on here.

Do you have a weight on your FPU 6? I have seen them listed on EvilPrey at both an 80# and 100#.
Either there are two models: Heavy 6 and Slim 6 or some EvilPreyers have challenges reading a scale.
Anyone else out there have an FPU 6? Fat or skinny?

!! However i guess thats the kind of bonuses you get when you live near Detroit
No doubt Gmanbart is a Wilton magnet. He sends me text pics of all his cool finds and i sit here and grit my teeth in jealousy since i cant ever find squat!! However i guess thats the kind of bonuses you get when you live near Detroit

and I live in SW Michigan.

Question----- Does Chas PArker make different size swivel bolt wrenches? I have a No2 on my 974 Parker and i noticed Gman is looking for a No3. Whats the difference and if there is a difference, then why did Parker feel the need to make different size wrenches just for the swivel bolt?!?!?
Congratulations! Judging from the photo of the as-new Dawn 60S offset vise that Jholland had posted on PM that he had forsale on Ebay, I presume you purchased it from him. I thought long and hard about getting it, as even for $575 (or whatever you paid outside of Ebay) it is a great vise.
For those who did not see the listing...

meatsis--- how can you tell its a parker? i dont see any markings
In the 2nd picture you can see the "er" from the word Parker on the slide

I've never heard of a fat or skinny FPU vise. I've always known them to be the turtle back shape, with reverse movement.
If there are FPU vises different from the turtle back style, can someone post pictures?
JKB,
I wondered if Bison made FPU vises other than the reverse movement, turtle back vises.
They made a standard 1250 series bench type of various sizes (Rapid for the US market), a 1271 series that rotates vertically, and some other styles. There just isn't as much information on them as American made vises.
BTW: I currently have a 80mm FPU vise. It's one of the best ones made. I hope to get a 150mm FPU and (now that you mentioned), a baby FPU.
Picked up this lil green C.Parker on the way home today in Indiana. The jaws are 2.25" wide. Only issue I see is the front part of the swivel base is missing.
Not sure if there is supposed to be a Parker piece holding the main screw in place but there is no hole indicating there ever was one. Anyone know if it would have come with a wrench for the swivel nuts?
1914 Patent on the bottom. Stamped 2000 on the other side and might say 720 on the bottom as well.
$30 brought her home.

My relatives translate FPU (Fabryka Przyrzadow i Uchwytow) as Factory of Tooling and Chucks - they are all second generation and only speak Polish (they cannot read it). So this is their best guess translation, and it matches the Google translation.
So, I think we all generally agree the Factory of Tooling and Chucks is Bison-Bial {FPU = Bison-Bial}.
This certainly supports that conclusion: http://www.rebik.si/static/upload/pdf/celotni_katalogi/KATALOG-BISON-BIAL.pdf
There is some company history in that link to the catalog.
For me, that would make FPU a maker, not a type of vise. So Bison-Bial made the Turtle FPUs and they make the 12xx series (and others) today.
The Bison-Bial 1240 Series looks to be a direct descendent of the FPU Turtle (and the German Leinin).

As for the babies, since there is no FPU on them [never found any on mine], and they are a conventional front moving jaw vise, I think it best to call them "Baby Bison-Bial" or, for lazy people like me, Baby Bison.
A larger image would help, but it sure looks like a Bay Bison. Right down to the stamping on the clamp handle.
Someone sold one a while back on EvilPrey and their description was nothing short of gushing. Well deserved, but you would have thought it was an incarnation of Christie Brinkley in a Lamborghini...
Does this all make sense??

wait a second, did someone just say they have a 100lb fpu?

SWEET Reed 105. All this chatter of unique, small, and collectable vises distracted everyone away from what I feel is the best working vise out there, that Reed 105 you have there. Finally grabbed one myself recently but it is a later version with the split nut but luckily the ball main screw end. I prefer the aesthetics of yours, I have a 106 as yours.
Nice find!
The "swivel cross plate" on yours is actually OEM.
I have several that are identical, kind of cheesy for such cool vises.
Functional nonetheless...
Well bought!
Take care!
