Its seen more abuse than it deserved that's for sure. I still can't get the rotation to rotate easily, even after cleaning all the surfaces and oiling its still very tight.

Here is a Reed 104 1/2 that I recently picked up. It is interesting in that is has the newer four foot base base but not the flat handle nose.

It does have an interesting tag as an ACCO Vise. American Chain and Cable Company is on the vise manufacturer list, but perhaps they only relabled vises from other manufacturers such as Reed.

Another before and after...this 9400 had all sorts of ugly on it, but now it's pretty again! I added new swivel locks from Autopts, as well as a new handle and set of jaws from KMScott. The slide is marked Guar Exp 12/31/1960 so it was made in 1955....pretty late in the Chicago era.

I don't suppose the body has been used as an anvil at any point? Perhaps that has distorted the hole in which the static jaw rotates?

I've seen that a couple of times. Makes a good counterweight for maintaining a spin open... (or closed)

But a well greased vise does just fine for that...

I know this is off topic here but I wanted to mention the OLD (pre 1960's) PICTURES thread. It's for old photos vaguely having to do with industry, tools and other cool stuff. Take a look and add any pictures you might have. You'll get to see my father on his Indian ca. 1947 and the Pegboard Palace

So I have question on these ATHOL vises...do they all have removable jaws? Inspecting the 613 1/2 I have I can not see any defining lines indicating that the jaws are separate pieces. :headscrat

CRS: i love those old tool pictures and especially the ones with vises in them. i bet the boys across the pond might like that one even a bit more. the big Parkinson on the back of the bench looks familiar, but not sure our guys have found that one yet.

CA: are you doing all that excellent shining by hand with files and sandpaper or using a grinder or buffer? in any case your skills are to be admired. WELL DONE!

GMan: not to be outdone you are turning old bullets into like new showpieces yourself and in this case with the aid of a few new parts that look amazing. WELL DONE! also i think it's maybe been 2 or 3 days since i've seen you post another wilton bullet purchase so are you having withdrawals?

VA: more food for the big guys i'm guessing when you buy another little one, but they are easier to store (or hide).

Hi all, have any of you guys ever heard of LIV vises? Or did the seller make a mistake in reading the letters on the vise? Thanks

Hi Drives, no I don't have any pictures yet, sorry. Maybe the seller made a mistake when he read the letters on the vise and he should have told me LMV! What are your thoughts on these vises? Thanks

Glen: always depends on condition. if it is LMV they are early 1900's and built as good as a Reed, Rock Island and the rest give or take a few differences.

i can't think of an LIV so did you get any other #'s or maybe how big it is?

good luck

Thanks Drives, I will contact the seller tomorrow and ask him if it could be a LMV and to send a few pictures. Thanks for your replies for now.

LOL....ask and you shall receive my friend! Just got back a few hours ago with this super clean Wilton Tradesman 1760 and a set of 4" Wilton magnetic soft jaws. This came from an estate sale, and the owner was a woodworker....the jaws are like new, and the anvil is unmarked. I'm not sure why it was painted, but I don't see any marks on it anywhere. The Wilton magnet keeps working!

Question for anyone with a Parker 63-1/2, or has had one apart. (this is the old Art Deco exposed screw vise...)

Mine has a washer tack welded to the screw to retain the screw in the dynamic. I'm assuming this is someone's "fix" and it should have a c clip?

That model 150 looks very stout and well made and looks like it's held a nice easy life also.
