Any More GearWrench Ratchet Problems?

I'm looking at getting a set of GearWrench locking flex head ratchets, 84 teeth. I have seen in the past forums about the 84 teeth GW ratchets having problems. Has GearWrench fixed the problems or are there still issues? Seems like a great price, never had any GearWrench before. Thanks for any info.

I could be wrong but I believe that the 84T issues were sorted out a few years ago. Ive had a standard length 3/8th for about 3 years with no issues. Id say go ahead , good ratchets.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad to hear that they hold up well. I think I will invest in the locking flex head set, they seem to be very reasonably priced.

There's a fair amount of play in the head when locked. They don't lock as tight as say the Armstrong/Matco locking ratchets.

Just curious, why the 84s over the 120xps? Price?

No, small & thinner head on the 84 tooth than the 120xp series.

Sent back my 84 tooth a year ago when the selector locked up, the replacement has been fine, but I don't use it all that much.

Sent back my 10mm reversible ratchet wrench for the same problem, replacement did the same thing before long. Haven't bothered to warranty it yet.

It is mainly because of the locking feature. I would love to get a set of the 120xps flex heads, but I don't think they have them with the lock. I guess I am hung up on this lock business, I have a craftsman flex head but every time I use it, it slips out of position....very annoying.

See I hate the locking heads. I guess they're nice if you're really reaching for something, but I like the free moving heads. The best thing I've done is take the head off and put a tight lock washer in. Now the head is really tight and doesn't flex unless you want it to. Here's a FL936 I did recently. You can see the lock washer on the bottom I ground down with my bench grinder to fit. Now the head only flexes when I want it to. It's tight...

Nice work! I will have to give it a try with my craftsman, looks like the pin is easy enough to drive out. Anything is better than how it is now, very floppy.
