Local code requires greenies, but only a 12 GA will fit thru the hole.

Can I just use a tan nut? Or do they make a 10ga greenie?

I don't have a Buchanan crimper

Thanks

Where did you hear that the Boston Code required "Greenies"?

Codes are written in such a way that they don't endorse a particular brand name.
Greenies are trademarked and manufactured exclusively by Ideal.

I have never had an inspector turn down a regular wirenut for grounding purposes, after 40+ years in the trade.

Ask for a code reference if he does fail you.

I call BS on your inspector
I hear you. He is an old curmudgeon. The truth is I don't care - will do whatever he says, I just hate doing things twice and I'm not a mind reader!!

I have my dog-eared copy of the nec at the ready....rough is on Tuesday

Thats exactly why he gets away with what hes doing. Because everyone is scared to challenge him.

Call his boss and tell them you want to see a copy of the code in writing.

It doesn't work like that here. The inspectors are so busy you that if piss them off they will wait another week to come back to see you, when you're ready next day.

Is this residential? Crimp or pigtail with the red and yellow ones is what I see on jobs (commercial).

Guys! We are all friends!

Inspectors are people and they have their own insanities just like anyone else. He must have a reason for liking greenies. I doubt he'd fail me if I didnt use them and maybe I'm misremembering that he stated a preference instead of saying it was a code requirement?

I'm happy to meet his requirements as long as they're reasonable .

I could see how an inspector who had weird requirements and made me redo work would be a problem if this was my job though...redo work = cutting into margin.

Anyway I went with a tan wire nut, my guess is he won't even notice it.

I shall report back results!

If all you are doing is tying two #10's together, and not passing EGC through, how does the end hole in the "Greenie" even come into play? It will handle two #10 wires.

I need the pigtail to tie into a switch. I have a 2 pole 240v switch that's controlling the load to my garage heater.
