Wow! I just noticed this thread has gone to 1,000 posts. And I'm not done cleaning my shop yet. Where does it all end?

Andy, have read through your whole thread from near the start of it. Have greatly enjoyed getting to know you and your outlook on life. We had a small herd of cattle, sold them out a few years back and buy calves now and feeder pigs to raise for our freezer meat customers. I bought a '62 IH farm truck with hoist about four years ago. My nine year old grandson can't wrap his head around it not being an IH/Case truck. I bought it because I had sold my '48 Ford with a flat head V8 and needed a truck to haul the spoil pile away from our pond. Also another reason for buying it, same model year that I am. Love the old IH truck and the COE. Remember my dad cussing working on those things at his gas station (Mobil). Well, anyway, keep on working, errr cleaning up the shop.

I know my dreams are bigger than my ability to make them happen. But this truck was too much for me to pass up. I may never get around to it, but I refuse to give up dreaming:thumbup:

Boy Andy
Do we come from the same gene pool
I'd be wettin my pants to get a chance to load that old truck onto my trailer
But after it got home it would sit with my other 100 rusty projects hoping for some attention

Great grab there Andy.

I haven't forgotten about your spreader just keep forgin to bring er out of the garage for my wife to send out

mail I promise

Don

I missed your post there, Don!

Yeah it was hard to see that truck sitting a few miles from the house and it wasn't mine. And with all my high hopes for it, I just have to do some other things first. I really want to rebuild some of the old tools I have sitting outside like the Atlas drill press.

I'll enjoy using the tire spreader if you have a chance to send it, I'm still thinking about what would be a good trade. You can't have my bubble balancer.:headscrat Oh, you've got one...:eyecrazy:

i know exactly that feeling also. just today i found a datsun 620 pu on cl. not too bad of shape, for a fair (i think) price. it is a ways away and needs work, but i have wanted an early snall pu for long time. not sure i have the stamina that you and don have, but i figure i could peck at it a bit at a time. can't quit dreaming or it is over. jim

Can't quit dreaming:rocker:

Did you know within ten years the Japanese had captured a significant share of the US market? Dot soon?

Thanks for the compliment, but "big time Andy" is a bit much:bowdown:

Nice score on the old truck!

And using the M to pull it around into the line up even better!

Thanks! I really do use my Farmalls, I really do farm with old iron. And I really had not had one started in a few weeks, it is great to hear them roar to life and get under a load and pull. Not that the old truck was much of a load for an M. Bob would have pulled it off for me but he was napping in the hay barn and we already had the road blocked to the barn while backing the trailer in. Many years ago we had a family reunion for my wife's family at the house and I managed to get twelve tractors started for a little tractor parade. Several guys driving who had never been on a tractor. :scared: Lots of little kids around:scared::scared: But we survived.

Thanks for the visit! The picture of your 62 IH wouldn't open, please post it again, we all want to see it. But... how could you sell a 48 flathead? (sorry about the use of the four letter word "sell", I know it's not proper in cultured society, but that's what you did!)

Getting some wire runs complete and tied down snug!

Had a funeral today (not mine!), and tried a light box to send a broom on a test trip. Maybe I can start shipping brooms, if I can find enough light boxes.

Hanging lights!

Two more on that run and I'm half done in the Skelly garage! I'm sure slow, but it is getting there.:willy_nil

Well done mate. If we can't get motivated from your quick 50 pages, then I don't know what will do it...

Only Tuesday for me. Looking for a Saturday but seems you have them all tucked away.

My dad was telling me a story about someone he knows buying a new property the other day. Farm sheds involved and all. I immediately asked if there were any old trucks that needed rescuing, but alas none to be found...

Cheers GB.

Yep - your productivity astounds me too!!!! I refuse to believe that a)there's only one of you, and b) you're as old as you profess..... :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :eyecrazy:

But those broom boxes look fantastic, except logistically. . . . But ask you're local shipper, or Post Office, what they are worth to ship Down Under, and we'll see how ugly it is. You can PM me if you need. I'm just curious.....

All in a little over 4 months. Andy, You're the king.:dunno: Maybe it's the way you tell a story, maybe it's because you are doing interesting things, maybe???????? Whatever it is, you have us all coming back here everyday.

Hah, would have a real active imagination if you had seen my IH truck as I didn't post a photo!:dunno: Really like that wiring system with wire holders and all. I started my wood shop in conduit and now your system has me second guessing myself and thinking it is time to buy romex and get it done. Lighting, so very important and so often overlooked. Great job!:rocker:

Shop is looking great  Light and power is no doubt going to be great

Thank you! I need lots of light, and carry a flashlight all the time anyway. Thanks for the visit!

I've been slow to figure out how to package the brooms, and may have to go to a full box, and maybe UPS, but it's underway now and I will get it figured out. Gland ot have you stop in!

Did you go look at the property? It astounds me what some people will call junk and have hauled off while I see a real project.

I plan to keep all the Saturdays, thank you.

Andy, your wiring is looking fantastic..

Yep - your productivity astounds me too!!!! I refuse to believe that a)there's only one of you,

My wife has always said she is glad there's only one of me:dunno:

Pulling those wires it would have been handy to have a helper, but my son in law does not do ladders :)

and b) you're as old as you profess..... :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :eyecrazy:

I graduated from high school in 67, so that makes me 67. Why don't I have any 67 vehicles? Like a Camaro, or GTO? I might have 67 tractors. I know you guys get tired of this, same old 6 ad 7.

But those broom boxes look fantastic, except logistically. . . . But ask you're local shipper, or Post Office, what they are worth to ship Down Under, and we'll see how ugly it is. You can PM me if you need. I'm just curious.....

You'll have to explain why the boxed broom does not look good logistically. Because it won't go on equipment designed for boxes?

I appreciate the kind words, but I've got my secret weapon: I don't know what I'm doing on GJ, just having fun and getting motivated.

Oh was I supposed to say good job on the lights? Naw, you already know that. What's next???????:eyecrazy:

What's next? Terrick's post, of course, you could have just looked.

D, indeed, what's next?

Wiring and lights. Wiring and lights. Wiring and lights. I really can't think about hooking up my compressor, running new air line, or setting up my not so new lift until I'm finished with wiring and lights!

Hah, would have a real active imagination if you had seen my IH truck as I didn't post a photo!:dunno: Really like that wiring system with wire holders and all. I still can't see your truck! What am I doing wrong. I just hate these computers when I can't figure out what to do. I'll keep trying. My wife suggested formatting the hard drive. Said that would solve all my computer problems. I'll just keep trying until I can see it. What does she know?

Every man to his own on the wiring system. It sure depends on your local codes.

Thanks so much for stopping by, guys!

We should all try one day with a hand tied behind our back. Then we would have an idea what Bob and Acie are up against. Thanks for the visit!

I think some of the latecomers may have missed your humor, Andy. Us faithful followers remember that you have a FEW light boxes around. :willy_nil

Oh yeah, those boxes. Now, where did I put them?:dunno:

They have to be right here some place.:willy_nil

I appreciate all the comments guys,

No shed time today. NADA, none, didn't even go there. Don't go there.

Neighbor called yesterday, said my bull was in his pasture and said the hole in the fence was east of the big elm tree. Big hole in the dirt.

WARNING THIS MAY BE OT

I will not be held liable for wasting your time:willy_nil

So I loaded up some T posts. Tried to pick out the worst. (why, save the best for my old age? Just something I do, use up the bad stuff first)

IMG_0303_zps7ctbvq1n.jpg

I never liked green ones anyway.

Got my fence tools bucket out of the caboose, along with the post driver and fence stretcher and put them in the new truck because I'm too lazy to fix the old Dodge.

IMG_0304_zpsxvhe6nc7.jpg

And a couple of leftover wire rolls.

Here's where planning comes in. When I fed the cows this morning I shut them in the feeding pen so I could open the gates and leave them open. Now I have a straight shot to drive through three gates:rocker: Am I smart or what?

IMG_0305_zpslqev6iqf.jpg

Past the barn, down a hill through the woods, through a field, then through this draw to the north field. This used to be much deeper. The PO would push dirt in to it each year to get across on a tractor. I put a pipe in it.

IMG_0306_zpsafn98cyt.jpg

The tree is the one that sticks up above the others at the end of the grass. That's my north fence line 1/2 mile from the house. (160 acres is 1/2 mile square, and the house is on the south fence line) You can see where I missed spraying weeds this last spring. Kind of nice to know how bad it would have been had I not sprayed.

IMG_0307_zps9i00y6hc.jpg

There's the big elm, and there's the hole. Like the neighbor said, big hole in the fence and big hole in the dirt. There's been a fence here since before 1900, and blowing sand drops under the wire. Some of this wire may be original. I haven't replaced it in 30 years and it looks no different. Neighbor says it has looked like this for 60 years. You can see how much this is built up right at the fence. I've noticed that on fences I've built. It's actually a good thing, you have a little dirt bank as part of the fence.

IMG_0309_zpsl1mw3kdw.jpg

He thought our bulls got to fighting and dug a hole under the fence. I have to agree.

IMG_0308_zpsw0blpxzg.jpg

They say good fences make for good neighbors. Well, we don't have a good fence, and we're both to cheap to replace it. The corollary may be true "good neighbors don't make good fences". Now if bulls in adjacent fields decide to fight, you can't stop them short of moving them. They will tear up a first class fence and get all cut up doing it. So there is a little advantage in having a piss poor fence so you don't lose much when they tear it up. My neighbor usually fixes the fence and he also usually borrows my stock trailer. I just ask him to ask first so I'll know where it is if I need it. He found a job and is busy this week.

Going on his description of the problem, I had extra posts (usually one or two posts will fix a break) so I drove the existing post in deeper and added two. Then stretched a little wire to make it impenetrable. His cows came up to visit, they didn't think I was doing it right. They didn't say anything, out of courtesy, but I could see it in their eyes. Laughing cows.

IMG_0312_zpsmyn9uzg8.jpg

WOW! Fancy fence building if I do say so myself. It's better than the adjacent fence, and all I need to do is stop regular traffic and they'll forget about it. The bulls likely settled their differences (probably one calling the others girls ugly) so this will do the job. Like Eastwood says "do the job right". you bet

Used up one of the rolls of wire. It was old, the wire frame on the left, with the big loops, may be fifty years old. Kind of hated to use it:eyecrazy:

IMG_0313_zpsjmqctri8.jpg

Took about 1/2 hour to fix.

Here's the fence 50 yards away. Hmmm, no foot traffic, but maybe it needs a little patch. Got a guy waiting at the house, so this can wait (do the job right (or don't do it at all?:willy_nil))

IMG_0315_zpsclarsws1.jpg

On the way out I stopped to get a picture of the pipe I put in, in 1990. 36" overhead vapor line from the Sunoco Tulsa Refinery crude unit atmospheric tower. It was scrapped because it was so corroded, which I did not believe, so I bought it from the junk dealer before it was removed with the chief inspector standing there telling me it was paper thin. It wasn't. I put two fifteen ft pieces in this ditch, and **** welded it just before I rolled it in. Have to clean brush out of this inlet end every four or five years.

IMG_0316_zpsuc14t04v.jpg

I love it down here.

Here's a 56 Chevy two door hardtop.

IMG_0317_zpsd1p3ikbs.jpg

One of these days, when the cotton's high and the corn's a growing I'm going to pull that out and see what I can salvage. It was put in for erosion control.

Back to real life, thanks for going down to the bottom with me. On eof my favorite places.

After my appointment in Tulsa (I need a root canal) I had to make pies. Should have asked the cows, but I forgot.

Got an old friend coming over tomorrow taking us out for a pre-Thanksgiving dinner and I told him I'd make a pie. Need two for the sister-in-law on Thanksgiving Day, too.

I use my wife's first mother-in-law's crust recipe.

We were lucky in that no close neighbors had cattle. Plus a guy in our county rents bulls so we only had 10 cows so he would rent us a virgin bull for $200.00. When done, send him home, no worries over him on the off season. Good job on the fence. Got to go see about a picture of my IH truck for a guy. :lol_hitti

Good on ya!, I just finished dinner and was feeling good, when I sat down and read this, now I am hungry again. Great work on the fence, funny how the bulls just don't get peoples personal space!

jim

I need to get another wire stretcher. This one has a broken spring so it takes two hands to operate, and the serrations to grab the wire are worn, so when it starts to get tight I hammer on the release levers with my wire pliers to set the clamps. Unfortunately, that habit is so ingrained I would probably hammer on a new one too:willy_nil

It is old but gets the job done if a little inefficiently.:dunno: Are we talking about a wire stretcher or me?:willy_nil I guess it does not matter, same answer either way...

My bull has been to feed every morning. Except my neighbor said he was over there I would have never known it. The cattle are not stupid. His bull is missing but he has not come up to dine at our facility. His is smaller but has horns. Mine may have hurt his (I hope not) in their barroom brawl.

Looks like you make a better pie crust than I... never did quite get that right.

I use my wife's first mother-in-laws', it's called never fail and is very simple. I learned to make it when I started cooking at age 65.

Hey Andy, the pies look yummy. Cherry and pecan are my favorites too. Maybe next year we can share one. Happy Thanksgiving.

Thank you. If you can make it this way I'd certainly make you a pie, or get the cows to make a cow pie for you...

The cake looks delicious

Thank you! It's so easy, after making several I now have the confidence that they will be good:thumbup:

Thanks for stopping in, guys, I appreciate the comments!

That's a great deal, a bull for $200. I loan my bull out on occasion but only if they bring their cows to my place. He seems to be OK with it:thumbup:

I still, after all this looking, can't see your truck:mad: I guess it's just me. I would be greatly appreciative if you could repost it. My spending time looking for it has apparently brough tshop work to a complete halt.

1956? You're just a kid!

Man of mini talents. How many times must I repeat that?

He can't keep the null, I can't keep the bull. The bull goes wherever he wants and does as he pleases. Good news is my cafeteria is a little nicer than the neighbors.

Pies look yummy! Sad to see a nice old 56 Chevy, too bad its upside down and in a wash out. It needs to head closer to the new shop, and replace with a couple of big rocks. I see some good trim parts on it.
Happy Thanksgiving all!

Andy, that '56 has a lot less rust and rot than the one I drove back in '63.

Andy, you seem to be the "Cow Whisperer". but you never have listened to me when I've spoke to you about the cows and their trust. Even though you tend to a small herd and I don't have any at this time, I must insist once again that u=you need to stop trusting those cows. As far as them laughing cows, I must say bull. They're cheesy and don't think much of us snacking on them. But you know what you're doing and I'll stop trying to tell you about how to deal with your heifers. All I'm going to say is that's a lot of bull that digs under a fence. Be careful. And don't milk the fence situation too long.

Oh, thanks for the visual tour of the back 40.
